I ADMIRE the fearless.
Ashley Victoria Olivarez

..My name is Ashley Olivarez and I am Dallas born and world made Army brat. I am an inspiring Singer/songwriter/dancer/actress.
Every since I was little I was always performing in some little way. I would dance and sing around the house singing Selena and any music I happen to know the words to as my parents videotaped every performance! My grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and all would all sit around the living room while I sang along to music to them!
My dad enlisted in the Army when I was six years old. Moving, new town in New York, saying goodbyes, and new friends were soon coming into the picture. Moving to a new school, I joined the choir and we performed in front of all the parents! It was so much fun learning new songs, but very nerve racking with all new faces. I soon realized new faces were definitely different performing to than to family. But I continued to sing away!
Our next move was San Antonio. I was getting older and making friends wasn’t as hard to do, as before. It became almost routine! Going to school was fun with older kids, different teachers, and more lessons learned were way awesome. But what would soon get my attention was the day care I would be attending right after school. The YS (youth center) was a place where kids would get picked up after school and could enjoy doing many fun activities until parents got off of work. They had gym, art, playground, but the most enjoyable place was the music room! There was a karaoke machine, stereo and lots of music! I would play my favorite girly songs and sing them all day until it was time for pick up. That’s when I had an amazing idea! I would host my own little concerts for the kids there. I would say “At 3:30 I will be singing a concert for you guys so be there when it’s time to sign up for which activities you want” And that’s where it began. It turned from 2 kids to almost all the kids and staff enjoying the show I put on. And the words of one of the staff members Mr. Armando will forever stay in my head. He said, “I can’t wait to see you when you get older. You will be rocking the stage for many more people. You’re going to be a star!” From then on I my obsession with music continued. Concerts and concerts I did. At school there was no choir but a class called music exemplary with Ms. Ferguson. She would have us dance and sing, and would perform for TAKS (Texas Assessment for Knowledge and Skills. (State annual test)) Pep rallies, singing to Jackson Fives ABCS! I remember how proud my parents were of me that day. The next year, drama class was required, but I was extremely shy. One day we were rehearsing for a Christmas musical, just a shy quiet girl no one expected for what would happen next. My drama teacher was looking for a singer to sing a solo. She asked, “Can anyone just get up and sing to see whether or not they get the part?” Girls and more girls were singing, me just sitting there shy was going back and forth whether or not to try. So I grabbed the guts to just bust out a tune, and everyone became silent. “Oh my goodness Ashley I didn’t know you could sing!?” I had made the part! Me!
Our next move would be in the deep desert of El Paso! When I moved there they only had one small little choir, but you had to take P.E. instead if you had already taken choir. No more singing, but my best friend Karolina and I would sing all the time for our friends.
My next move would be a COMPLETELY different. Not only would I have to say goodbye yet again, or change schools, and say by to family until the next time, we were on the way to Europe. Heidelberg, Germany! At first I was heartbroken, I wouldn’t be able to see my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents for TWO WHOLE YEARS! I had no idea what to expect. Everything from the smell to the way it looked was different. Not only that but I would be starting the hardest part ever, HIGH SCHOOL! The only thing I knew about high school was what was shown on TV. The bully would pick on the smallest freshman and stuff them into a locker or trash can. Europe actually turned out to be the BEST and FUNNEST move ever. I had learned so much about myself, and many life lessons. Freshman year and sophomore year were fun but troublesome, with my grades slowly getting lower and lower my parents were becoming very disappointed in me. They knew I was capable of anything, they would say “We are mad at you because we know you can do better. If we thought you were dumb we would accept any kind of grades.” But as a kid you never really listen to advice given from parents. It’s kind of a learn as you go along mindset. Which is exactly what I did. They didn’t have a choir class but they did have a step team! I was loving it. Any kind of performing was what I was looking for! If I could do talent shows and pep rally performances I was set. I would be especially nervous, especially for pep rallies. (Which we only had two a year for a school of only 750 kids)
After two very fast, wonderful years we moved to Forney Texas. A small town where the only time you saw it on the map is when you were within 100 miles from it. Pure country is what I called it. My mom took me to register for school and I have never seen such a huge school in my entire life! The football field was actually green with actual bleachers, and stadium lights! Looked like a college to me. I arrived there late to register so all the activities you had to try out for the previous year. I was depressed! High school, with no after school activities I was able to do! Too late! Nothing! We happen to pass by a dance team which later informed us it was too late to try out because they prepared months before for football routines. We kept walking and found someone who was a sponsor of the step team. Yes! Finally something I actually had experience in. Tryouts would be the following week. Since already in the step team before and not knowing anybody, I showed them all up and began to dance and step at the same time. They were amazed! From then on I would have the nickname “Lil JLO” How awesome! I have never felt so at home so quickly. Step team was only an organization so we were very limited on where we can go and do. We didn’t even have a practice spot. Feeling very upset I had a meeting with the principal to organize a practice spot and more opportunities to perform. Sadly she could only bust out the “HANDBOOK”. We did end up walking away with a radio to use and a practice spot! I felt like I had actually accomplished something. So my junior was spent fighting for places to perform. No such luck. So my senior year, I needed something that could keep me busy. I never liked to just sit in one spot at one time. So I tried out for a team where the people were the complete opposite of me, and a completely different style of dance that I was used to. I tried out for the drill team, where we would actually perform in front of hundreds of people at pep rallies, half time at football games, and competition. There was choir, but you had to have been in there since freshman year. Dance was the next option. I would practice every day during dance class, and would stay after school by myself just to make sure I would make the team. My dance teacher just watched as I grew as a student, person, and dancer. I made the team, and had the greatest time of my life! I would get the adrenaline from the hundreds of people that would show up to watch us, and the Spring show we put on. I lived for the SUPER LATE practices and EARLY mornings. In the summer we would even practice from 7 in the morning until past midnight! I loved it! Busy, busy, busy is what I loved and exactly what I got! My very first performance I remember my dance instructor coming up to me and saying, “ Out of all the girls on the team, I think I am the most proud of you. Probably because I saw all the hard work you did in dance. And even though you’ve never done anything like this, knowing that and still trying out takes a lot of guts, and you did it!” From that day on I was proud of everything I did.
After graduation this summer, I began looking at community colleges in Colorado where we would be moving to next! I was looking a college with dance major and many theater and music activities! A dream school I am going to attend for two years, and then transfer to somewhere in California to help my career.
I began writing more from past experiences. I was determined to try out for everything I could. I tried for BARBAZON (my junior year and made it. Having to do a runway walk. They said I was beautiful and had much potential), but the classes there were way expensive.  Then I tried for proscout, driving two hours for an interview. I didn’t make it to the next level because I hadn’t been in enough activities outside of school, because drill team took all my time. Last Friday I tried out for American Idol. It was the most amazing and memorable experience of my life. I got there Wednesday morning at four just to register. Then Friday morning at three to audition. There were over 10000 people there! I wasn’t even nervous surprisingly! Forney had definitely taught me many lessons about myself. I was raised all over the world but I actually “grew up” in Forney. I sang “Love Like This”, and the producer said I sang beautiful and would encourage me to keep singing and going after my dream. So he then asked me to sing another song. I chose to sing one by the Jonas Brothers, and right in the middle of the song I forgot the words. Definitely not the thing to do in AMERICAN IDOL! I was so disappointed but proud at the same time that I actually had the guts to do something like that!....I would LOVE to write and record a song with you! I am always up for a challenge and I am always writing little quotes and things all the time. If you could just give me the chance, the time, I would appreciate it. You WONT regret it, give me chance..Please. Thanks for hearing me out! ....

Thanks for hearing me out! ....
