Current mood: awake Category: Music
Hip hop has definately taken a turn for the worse in recent years. Most of the time 9.5 times out of 10 hip hop no longer has anything to do with the music. Now it is all about image and corporate dollars. Whenever approaching a radio company or even a business to help sell/market/promote material, everyone has to think...how much money can this guy make me or us.
What is the bottom line? why has hip hop become such a fad that anyone and everyone is doing it? I thought it was cool to not be like everyone else...I guess I was wrong.
Like Nas said Hip Hop is 'officially' dead...you've got underground kats who are content with staying UNDAGROUND and you've got mainstream kats who only care about their bank accounts...leasing their cars and leasing their jewelry it's time the public found out...just cause these rappers appear on videos 'ballin' they really are not...they are leasing all of their stuff paying 1/5 normal price and pushin it off to the public of "it pays to follow the trend"...well public i'm here to tell you, the trend will get you nowhere and fast.
It's time to step out and OWN a piece of the pie, it's time to step up and make connections with other people who are doing it true to their heart and soul. At some point in time we as artist and as fans need to put a stop to this montage of bullshit.
We have to stop buying this crap called music that the local and regional radio stations play. When the dj's play crap music we need to take a stand and head on out. At some point we the fan/artist have LOST control of what is perceived as good music. you want to know who owns that? Big BUSINESS! yess I said it, if you support crap music, no viable sensable hook or lyrics then you are supporting THE MAN.
It's time to stop supporting the man and start supporting the art...let's bring hip hop back by not buying into this corporate appearance these Shade writers (sb) are putting in front of you...instead support those that are true to hip hop....the emcee's, the b'boys, the dj's, the graffiti heads and everyone else who is true to the game
my rant and message to hip hop...we're coming for you! With or without old skewl true hip hop artists...the new mainstream is just up the block!
Peace
