Who Gives Kudos:

Saturday, July 22, 2006
Hi Everybody,
Today is my first blog on MySpace (my friend Kristina Donahue posted the previous one). I hope to be relatively consistant with my entries at first, and to soon make entries every day. And your participation in this Community will only help to make it more Universal.
As those of you who know me are aware, my interestes are varied. But the main focus of my life seems to be MUSIC, POLITICS, SPIRITUALITY, and THE HUMAN CONDITION.
MUSIC has been my life for 40 years since I made a major decision many years ago to pursue it as my life's work. After many years of defining myself as a bass player (Bonnie Raitt, John Mayall, Maria Muldaur, CSN, Ringo Starr, and many other records and live tours), I have taken a left turn on life's path and made the decision to focus on being an artist, a singer/songwriter. The results can be heard on my 3 CDs, "THE END OF THE BEGINNING", "DOG PEOPLE" and "BEFORE THE SEPARATION". My latest has gotten excellent reviews, which I encourage you to check out on my site www.freebo.com
I'll be heading out in a few days on a 3 week tour to Nashville, Atlanta, Northern Georgia, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Madison, teaching at a kids Rock 'n' Roll camp in NYC, and a house concert in western NJ. All specifics should be on the calendar page of my site, if not on this one.
POLITICS to me is best defined or described as the workings of our society as enacted by our leaders as the representatives of We The People. Therefore, it is imperitive that We The People be intimately involved in that process, that we are acutely aware of what's going on. Because if we don't know what's going on, how the Hell can we do anything about it? So to me, INFORMATION is the key. And in this environment of a Corporate Media that seems much more interested in making money rather than disseminating accurate information, it is each of our personal challenges to gather as much information from as many divergent sources as possible, and then to come to our own intellengent conclusions based on that information. This means checking out both sides of the ledger, The Right and The Left. Since you can get all the Center-To Right information on almost any TV channel, radio news, newspaper, and talk radio (almost exclusively on The Right except for Air America), I will do my best to provide you with "alternative information" which may help you to reach a truly "fair and balanced" perspective. We will give you a list of news publications, radio stations, programs, and websites that will give you great information not generally given in mainstream media.
And as these blogs continue, I will do my best to paint a picture of "The Truth" as I see it, connecting the dots into concepts that make sense to me. I realize that "The Truth" varies from each of our unique perspectives. So I encourage each of you to please feel free to agree or disagree with my takes, perspective, pieces of information, solutions, etc. For it is an ONLINE COMMUNITY of awareness and positive action that I wish to create, participate in, and encourge you to do your part to help make this a better country and a better world for us all.
SPIRITUALITY to me is "The Inner Work", looking in the proverbial mirror, connecting to a higher source, and getting closer to enlightenment. There are many ways to participate in this very personal journey, both religious and secular. But the result is a greater awareness of how we all fit together as pieces in this collective we call THE HUMAN CONDITION. Because unless we walk The Walk, how can we talk The Talk without being true hypocrits? My journey has led me on many different tangents on this path, and as my personal vision becomes more and more clear, I will do my best to share it with you, hopefully without preaching, and always with the greatest sense of acceptance of the individual I can muster. If we were all on a path toward love, kindness, acceptance, humility, and fulfillment of our potential as creative and spiritual beings, this planet would be a better place for us all.
So THE HUMAN CONDITION is really our collective experience of living on this beautiful Planet Earth together. We all share the same emotions (insert different names, faces, and places), and we all wish to be happy and peaceful in our lives. If we can get outside ourselves and our own small circles and realize that we are actually all in this continuum together, we might actually find greater happiness and peace, both individually and collectively.
Many of these themes seem to find their way into my music, and I hope you receive enjoyment and perhaps even some inspiration from it. And I hope to interact with you through this blog to create that community which I believe so many of us long for.
Peace,
FREEBO

I can't believe nobody's commented yet.  Well, sometimes it's for nothing....  Besides, this overview is not your usual free-wheelin', truth-tellin' self.  Keep putting them up.

I'm in Bradenton, Fl, and I talked with you both times you were here at Fogartyville; magical nights for us.  You suggested to me The Artist's Way, and, while I haven't actually done the book's program, I have borrowed from it and hope to really 'do it' sometime in the next year.  Specifically, I've done the free-fall journaling several times, with amazing results.  Self-discovery is what taps us into the source, eh?

Re: politics.  I'm in a Unitarian church, and have politics in my face a lot.  More and more, I try to divert focus from politics to 'improving society'.  Politics and politicians are almost always removed and beyond influence.  But I can work on building community and improving society, and sometimes political processes play into that.  This is an important way to place myself, because this way I can keep my focus positive.

If you really do take on 'politics' in this sense, how do you keep your peace and be so positive when you perform?

Well, my last comment was sarcastic and dark, so I thought I'd add this:

While it's true that a few people have most of the power, all of the people have all of the power. We, collectively, are not involved enough, sometimes because we're apathetic and sometimes because the system is set up not to involve us.

The National Initiative is a pretty intriguing start on a real democracy in America. Check it out at http://ni4d.us/. If you agree that we need to vote as a nation on important issues, not just on which millionaire is going to run the country for the next four years, vote yes. You can also donate money to the Initiative.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, it's true. That's why, long ago, the US government started the Free Opinion program, by which they have promulgated the popular opinion through newspapers, magazines, radio, tv, and now internet. There's no reason for anyone to go opinionless anymore. God bless the USA.
