Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Just got this message in from Harry Weinger @ Univeral Music, the guy who's been putting together the deluxe editions and reissues of Marvin Gaye's albums the last few years:

Looking forward to helping this site grow. Marvin's artistry deserves to be heard, and the more you know, the more you love what he did. I'll hook up with Bill, the site's moderator, to kick off some conversation about these great albums. (And you know I love the 60s Marvin too but hey, look at these albums!) I can see we sometimes get swamped by emails and we'll do our best to answer them on the blogs.

BTW, been in the studio a lot lately, and we'll have TWO more 70s deluxe editions coming, too - more for the serious fan. Recent discoveries have proven pretty amazing.

Thank you for all the love and support for Marvin and the legacy of Motown.

"Angie Girl" was released by Stevie Wonder back in 1969, in the album My Cherie Amour. It's still in print. Sorry, Marvin never recorded a version.

Harry,
I'm a big fan of your MG site here on myspace. It's wonderful that it's getting the attention it deserves. Your hard work is paying off I think.
I released an album in August on the MAXJAZZ label called "Til Tomorrow - Remembering Marvin Gaye". It's a compilation of MG's music - songs he wrote, co-wrote or covered over his career. My vocal interpretations of his music are an expression of how he inspired me through some difficult times. It's a very personal project that I am proud of - it's been received so well by so many! I suppose everyone has, at one time or another, related to him and his music. It's an honor and a gift to be given the opportunity to share my perspective. There are no more words to describe what he's meant in my life.
I will continue to perform his music with a passion - and I'll be sure to do what I can to guide people to your dedicated site.
Thank you for your contributions!

Peace,
Cassandre McKinley

It touches on theological and personal issues plaguing Marvin at the time, and produced the hits “Heavy Love Affair” and “Praise.” But the album didn't have the mixes or final tracks he approved, and he left his longtime label for CBS the following year. This 2-CD expanded edition includes a newly remastered version of the original LP, outtakes from those final mixes, plus a previously unknown and unheard alternate mix and lineup of the album.

But that’s only half the story: this album was originally conceived as a party record Marvin called LoveMan. Except for the single, “Ego Tripping Out,” he never finished that concept. 60's Marvin >>> 70's Marvin

He did most of his crooning in the 60's... What's Going On is still the best album though.
