I wasn't sure how to finish out that scene at first. Here's what I came up with:
>> There was a long silence around me. Not even the Queen spoke.
Wfft! How could I have disgraced myself? How could i have been so weak?
And then I heard the strangest sound. The one I least expected.
The Pendragon laughed.
The Queen held her arm out as far as she could from herself, vomit dripping from her hand. Her expression, icy cold as she stared at my father.
I could not help myself. The contrast between my father's mirth and her sterness, and the absurdity of the situation was enough. I laughed along with my father.
The Queen fixed her gaze on me. "You are so like your father."
"And that is bad?" I said through my giggles.
She turned her back on me. "She's yours now, Arthur. I want nothing more to do with the girl." She spun and dashed down the dais steps, calling for her ladies to join her.
And laughed harder for her empty threat. She was doing me a favour. And she didn't even know.
