My work deals mostly with the relationships that I have with the women in my family. The paintings that I create have mainly been a homage to each of these women. In "Untitled (Three Generations)" the painting represents three generations of women in my family. Each of the individuals who came before me has influenced me in my life and work.

There are three components in the painting that depicts each individual. The process of creating a surface for the painting through sewing symbolizes my grandmother, a woman who applies her talents through the process of sewing and use of fabrics. Knowledge and education is the source of my mother's influence by reading great literature, such as Don Quixote. Don Quixote was the inspiration for all of my mother's work and studies, which is also illustrated in the painting. The awkwardness of the canvas reflects the disregard for traditional values in Latin culture and disregard for the traditional size and shape of the canvas. The painting is cultivated through my ideas and methods of making the composition. Through collage I am able to put a part of the individual in the artwork.
