today, my 2.5 year old said something to me i will never forget. after some water fighting, dirt eating, mud pie making play time in the back yard, it was time for her and her siblings to wind down for an afternoon nap. wifey was off running errands, so pop dukes (that's me) was left to handle it. my 2.5 year old came through the sliding screen door in the den to file another complaint about her younger brother. she was the first to get the news about the nap. the convo went down as follows:

daddy: baby girl, you know it's time for a nap.

baby girl: no!! i gonna stay inna back yard.

daddy: are you talking back to me?

baby girl: no...i talking front to you...

usually, i can hold back my laughter when i'm trying to be serious, but i couldn't help it this time. that was classic. for all my parents out there, you know what i'm talkin' bout.

That was cute and gave me a giggle. I wouldn't have been able to hold a straight face either.

all I want to know is..........did baby girl get more backyard time? smile

only a parent can understand how a child can chime in.............as if they are channeling spirits.

Haha! The hardest is trying to hold in your laugh when you're scolding and they say/do something like that. Sometimes I just give in. It feels better. Ha!

Thanks for that Garth.

I'm only about 7 years into it, but at this point it seems like 90% of parenting is just keeping a straight face . . . O.K.
, maybe my percentage is a little off, but it IS more than a notion, that's fo' sho! Miles got jokes, believe that!

Stay strong Pop Dukes.

More Peace & Blessings,

okay, so i used to nanny for two little boys uptown - 6 and 8 years old now. one day, the 6 yr old is writing the date on the top of his homework. one of his little friends was over to play.
convo went like this:

jordan: what are you writing on it?

ben: my name and today's date. sometimes i write 2008. sometimes i write just '08.

and before i could say a word, ben finishes up with this:

ben: ...it's a personal choice.

priceless!

Nice. . . my boy thinks a dragon named Robert lives in our hair dryer and jumps in to dry his hair with the 'hotbreath' after his shower, he's also 2 years old. . . starting to push those boundaries of independence. No wonder Cosby kept going back to the gold mine of child-raising, it truly is endless.

Be good sir.
