Double A side. Get me! I'm really happy with this release, the tunes were mastered beautifully by Beau at Masterpiece and the final pressing is really nice, warm and bass embracing!
Press Release:
Bristol-based Forsaken has been producing his uniquely musical mix of beats and bass for several years now, garnering attention from across the world, the web and blogosphere, but vinyl releases have been scarce save for a tune on Immerse Records' Substratum EP and a 12" for Peverelist's imprint Punch Drunk.
Luckily, Immerse Records, celebrating its 2nd year, steps once more into the fray to deliver an imaginative twelve from Forsaken which is joyously unfettered by trends or orthodoxies, and full of his obvious love for music, melody and colour.
'Hypnotised' takes a snippet of Tweet as its mantra and builds a bumpy groove around it, where busy kicks and snare drums are surrounded by snaking bass, and a subtle skank punctuates the organic blend of Rhodes and strings. Heads down, eyes shut and let the beats run riot.
Fighting Spirit takes a more epic approach, blending eastern zithers with a wild selection of ethnic percussion that takes a cue from London's emerging Funky scene. Mixed with thunderous bass and soothing pads, Forsaken carefully balances the mood to create a sure-fire future classic. Boomkat Review:
The much touted Forsaken drops a couple of unpredictable killers for Bristol's ace Immerse imprint. 'Hypnotised' takes a breakstep/dubstep template and smudges the edges to forge an indivudual interpretation with off kilter breakbeat work and deep cut and heavy, yet definitely non-wobbly bass that links up to provide a killer dancing riddim. That's not to mention the clever sample of Tweet's 'Oops' vocal to provide the main refrain, placing this track head and shoulders above the rest of the competition. 'Fighting spirit' on the flip still belligerantly refuses to conform to the dubstep rulebook with a sickly woozy 2-step riddim bent and manipulated to suit its own devices and in the process sounding like the best of Bass Clef, Peverelist or a really pished El-B. Wicked tracks.
