Get Quizzed: Port O Brien on Beyonce, meeting Neil Young and, er, Ali G
Can you remember the first gig you attended?
The first gig I ever attended was "Weird" Al Yankovic at the Cal Poly Rec Center in San Luis Obispo, CA. I was very young, and very excited. Looking back, it was a pretty impressive show, with full-on costume changes and videos. Part of me still thinks Weird Al is a genius.
What’s your favourite album at the moment?
Probably that Cass McCombs album "Catacombs." Ryan got it a while back and we've listened to it a ton. Its great for all occasions. R. Kelly's "Double Up" has also been on constant rotation.
If you had to pick one producer to work with who would it be?
I'm gonna go with the obvious fantasy choice and say George Martin.
What was the last film you saw?
I saw Bruno a few days ago. I liked it, but not quite as much as Borat. I wonder what he'll do next. I don't know how good an Ali G movie would be.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Meeting Neil Young.
Pick your ultimate super group and why should the good people of Manchester come see you play?
On lead vocals, we have Beyonce (of course). On rhythm guitar, we have Danny Whitten, the original Crazy Horse guitarist. On drums, Ringo (of course). On keys, we have Billy Preston. Everyone in Manchester should come see us, because we are absolutely amazing. Beyonce singing behind the best band of all time, featuring members of the Beatles and Crazy Horse. Give me a break, yo.
Port O Brien play on 17th August with Papercuts. Tickets £8 adv. POB would also like to give a shout out to Bernie.
