My musical father died Saturday of lung cancer.
I'm glad i called him about a year ago and had a great conversation with him. He knew his days were numbered.
A unique, gifted artist at the piano, he will be missed very much. I'm really sad. I used to listen to him play and try to learn how to play left hand bass the way he did, many years ago at the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. My gig was from 5-8 in Copley's Bar. After that, I would go to the Plaza Bar, the most beautiful lounge in Boston, to be in the presence of greatness. He was very self-deprecating, but we musicians all know that he was superb.
I will write more about him when i am not quite so heartbroken.
