Howdy, y'all! Time for a Robert Lund roundup! Yee-haw!
Since you've probably been distracted by the crisis in Iran and, more importantly, the crisis in Neverland, let me bring you up to speed on Robert's four most recent contributions to The Funny Music Project:
This parody of the Kinks' "Lola" was originally recorded by Robert for his 2004 CD Workin' the Glory. That version, however, was sort of a prototype. It wasn't half-assed, but it wasn't, well, completely assed. So here, in a brand-new recording, is the entire ass! (Or, rather, two asses: one of each kind, male and female.) Dr. Demento played this tribute to the Old Testament ark-itect on last week's show. Thanks, Doc!
Possibly my favorite Robert Lund song ever, this is a parody of "Same Old Lang Syne," Dan Fogelberg's melancholy 1981 hit about bumping into an "old lover" in the fish sticks aisle at Piggly Wiggly. In our version, your mother and I hook up and paint the town puke green. Appropriately, Dr. Demento has played this on three of his last four Mother's Day shows. Thanks, Doc!
The title of this one says it all. But I'll blather anyway. It's a parody of the Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" about a blonde juvenile delinquent whose name eludes me. Of Robert's 2009 contributions to thefump.com, site visitors have played this one the most, a testament to the enduring popularity of the word "shart." On tonight's Dr. Demento Show, he counts down his Top Ten songs for June, and this one makes the cut. ( Tune in to find out where.) Thanks, Doc!
This song hails multiple religious icons: The Virgin Mary (who inspired "Lady Madonna," the classic tune this one parodies), the Beatles (the musical deities who brought forth said tune), and Barack Obama (no introduction needed). Another religious icon, Dr. Demento, includes this one in tonight's countdown. In fact, it's the song's fourth appearance in his monthly Top Ten, which means that it has a legitimate shot at being his #1 song for the whole dang year. You can help that happen - and won't you, please? - by requesting it. Thanks, Doc!
And thank YOU, dear listener!
We now return you to your regularly scheduled celebrity eulogies.
