The Star Newspaper interviewed Lucky from The SlashDogs for a short side column in their paper and we thought we'd post it up here so you could read it before it actually gets released:

STAR: Your music as The Slashdogs is being described as chuck berry on trucker speed, what does that mean?
LUCKY: It's a descriptor for the kind of high energy, bad-ass rock-n-roll that we try to create.

STAR: Since your band was formed in 2003, how do you find yourselves in rock through this tight competition?
LUCKY: I'm not that interested in the competition, all that matters is the music. There is music I enjoy and music that I'd rather ignore. Good music is bigger than the band. All the guys in The Slashdogs want to make music that inspired and inspiring, that's the main focus for us. Negative inter-band politics is waste of time and effort.

STAR: My secret passion is...
LUCKY: Eating Lays chips and Granola bars together... Sweet and savoury. M-M-M!! Good times! Come on!
It's a secret passion for a reason and I intend on keeping it that way.

STAR: My most embarrassing moment was when...
LUCKY: I don't get embarrassed anymore... I look back at things that may have been embarrassing when I was younger and I realise that they weren't that bad. I shat my pants at school once and that was pretty embarrassing at the time, but to my credit, it wasn't on purpose.

STAR: If I ever met a prominent politician I'd...
LUCKY: Want to try and figure out how arrogant a person has to be to assume to know what is best for the masses. How they can justify to themselves making decisions for people, they've never met, who's cultures, family life upbringing or personal circumstance, they've never encountered, let alone understand.

STAR: The best thing about South Africa is...
LUCKY: The people

STAR: The worst thing about being me is...
LUCKY: The need for acknowledgment. And I don't listen enough.

STAR: If I weren't me, I'd be...
LUCKY: Compost... But I still prefer me.

STAR: A common misconception about me is...
LUCKY: That I care about useless etiquette.

STAR: A phrase I use too often is...
LUCKY: "Forget about it"

STAR: Why you say, Spilled Blood Calls For Vengeance is the best album in rock and roll so far in SA?
LUCKY: You'd have to ask whoever wrote that... Wasn't me. The Slashdogs is my favourite band if that counts for anything.

STAR: Where did the group get this slogan, Ukubuya Kwemikhovu (The return of the dawgs)?
LUCKY: We got that from Lucky Dube. But Kwemikhovu is actually a term that was used to describe informants to the apartheid regime. It's a derogatory term which means living dead. Informants were likened to zombies, or people who were walking around without
a soul. So the slogan means: "return of the living dead".

STAR: My ideal night out is...
LUCKY: Playing a show

STAR: My pet hate is...
LUCKY: When something trivial gets me riled up.

STAR: In a nutshell, my philosophy is...
LUCKY: We were born to live.
