Hello fuckers,

That's right...I'm watching THE WIRE, SEASON 5!!! There are only 10 episodes to this final season and I've already devoured 4 of them. I'd forgotten how utterly FANTASTIC this show is and I'm doing my best to savor the last remaining episodes.

Since viewing Season 4, I've watched and enjoyed plenty of other shows, such as: DEXTER, LOST, and THE OFFICE. But seriously, I wouldn't recommend or push any of these shows on anyone the way I would THE WIRE. It's literally the best show ever. It demands ones full attention and concentration, much like reading a good book, and so I'll repeat what I've already said to those who haven't seen it yet...

WATCH IT ALONE AND WITH SUBTITLES ON.

That's all. This is no review, I know. I'm not going to talk about the characters or anything...although maybe I will when I've finished all the episodes.

Oh, but I will say this for THE OFFICE (US version): it's literally the ONLY tv show that I buy and need to own on dvd!!! (THE HONEYMOONERS comes in a distant second place. And I know...it is pretty random. What can I say? I need my laughs.)

Alright, are we done here?

Oh--a quick reminder to anyone that writes to me here on MySpace: Please bear in mind that I'm usually on the computer for less than an hour a day (usually at the library) and that most of that time is spent writing to a special someone AND I can't even fucking TYPE, so...please be patient if it takes me a week or two to get back to you.

And thus concludes my disclaimer...

And NO!! I'M NOT ON FACEBOOK!!! I know it's better!!! It''s faster, cleaner and you can play Scrabble!! I know!! I know!!! But I CAN'T do both!!! It's either MySpace or FACEBOOK and I'm sticking with Betamax!!!

Now go rent THE WIRE!!!!

SO LONG, SUCKERS!!!

~Joe

I keep seeing you mention The Wire, I have never really heard of it before so I decided, hm, maybe I'll read up on it to see if it is my kind of thing. After watching a couple clips on YouTube and reading the reviews of the series box set I want to buy the whole series... and I've only seen 3 minutes worth of YouTube clips about it.

Of course, I can't buy the whole series, although $135 seems pretty reasonable for 23 discs. But not so reasonable that I can afford it. I could Netflix them, but scratched DVDs annoy the living fuck out of me.

I don't know if Facebook is "better," especially with all of the endless solicitations for applications. Besides, you can customize your page/blog here, something that you can't really do on Facebook. Either way, I find it hard to let go of "one or the other," though I find I'm at MySpace much less these days...

That's cool you still do Beta. I had always preferred it to VHS. I still have loads of Beta tapes. I just don't have a Beta player :(. Heck, I even have some 8mm films left (but no projector...) and I used to have tons more, until a disaster between 2006-07 resulted in my losing both those and many more treasured items I'd collected in my life....

Now what is this WIRE stuff you speak of? (sorry, I don't have broadcast TV, or maybe I'm just being lazy in my passive viewing choices!).

Good luck with your special someone....I'm sure we'll be hearing more about her in the months to come...

I just finally checked out the Office recently, and other than the hots for Jenna Fischer (through whom's mySpace page I found yours, actually - what a fabulous picture of you two!!!), I find I just can't stand the show itself. That kind of humor just doesn't work for me at all.
(Though Jenna is the Bailey Quarters for a new generation!)

But you are SO right about The Wire. *Everyone* who thinks TV can *ever* be any good needs to give it a good intent watch and be blown away. After a few years of HBO dramas, I find I all the network dramas just feel entirely bogus to me now.

Though it bears mentioning, Joe, if you haven't checked out Deadwood, you're missing out on the other half of that equation. It puts other "westerns" to bed the same way that the Wire puts other dramas to bed.
After you've finished The Wire, there could more HBO goodness in store for you!

I agree that Deadwood is well worth watching. I love the use of language on that show above all else -- the clash of baroque Victorian propriety with the vulgar frontier "bared teeth" approach. Totally surreal, and yet believable in its own context and history.
