WELL WELL WELL, WHAT CAN I SAY....WELL I MUST SAY SOMETHING....I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE SINCE I PERFORMED WITH MASS ORDER, "SONG- LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING"... AND BOY HAVE I SEEN THE CHANGE.... I REMEMBER THE DAYS OF THE WMC WHEN EVERYONE WENT TO EVERY PARTY AND SUPPORTED EACH OTHER...NO MATTER IF THAT WAS UR STYLE OF HOUSE OR NOT. I REMEMBER TEAM GAMES, I REMEMBER HUGE WMC COOK OUTS, THAT EVERYONE WOULD MEET AT, EVEN IF U DIDN'T EAT PORK, CAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE A HUGE PIG OUT THERE COOKING ...IT WAS ABOUT THE UNITY, THE GATHERING, AND THE NETWORKING STILL.   SO 18 YEARS LATER I STILL GO AND REGISTER, CAUSE AS JESSIE JACKSON WOULD SAY, IF YOU DON'T VOTE, THEN YOUR VOICE DOESN'T COUNT....SO I SAY, IF YOU DON'T REGISTER, YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN, OR SPEAK.  WHILE I WAS THERE, I NOTICE THAT THE ATTENDANCE OF AMERICANS WERE DOWN, WAY DOWN, AND THE ATTENDANCE OF THE AFRICAN AMERCIAN COMMUNITY WAS PRACTICALLY NON EXISTENT.  THAT EFFECTED ME, BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES, ON UR TERRITORY ARE MAKING A BIGGER IMPACT THAN WE AS A WHOLE.  I SEE ITALIANS IN ONE PARTY, FRENCH AT ANOTHER, PROGRESSIVE AT ANOTHER...AND SO ON...WHAT IS ALL THIS SEGREGATION ABOUT...WHERE'S THE RAINBOW, WHERE'S THE ONENESS. NOW I LOVE MUSIC, BUT ARE WE FADING AWAY, ARE WE GIVING UP, ARE WE BEDROOM PRODUCERS, LABELS, THAT ARE JUST FOR SELF, AND NOT THE GROWTH OF THE COMMUNITY GLOBALLY.  WHAT CAN WE DO....AND SHOULDN'T WE ALL STEP UP IN FAITH, NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK LIKE, IF WE SAY " WE ARE HOUSE"  AND WE CREATED IT ON THIS SIDE, CHICAGO, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND DETROIT....WHERE IS YOUR VOICE?  WHERE IS YOUR CREATIVITY?  YOUR EVOLUTION?  WE STILL HAVE MUCH TO GIVE TO THE WORLD.  GO WITHIN AND FIND WHAT GOD HAS PLACED WITHIN YOU AND SHARE IT, FIND QUALITY VOCALIST, MUSICIANS, AND CREATE SONGS....NOT JUST NOISY TRACKS.... (NO NAMES...JUST TALKING HERE)  FOR A SONG CAN BE REMIXED, REMADE.  A SONG HAS A MEANING, A MESSAGE....LET'S STEP UP AND REPRESENT!   WHERE IS THE DANCE/HOUSE VOICE OF AMERCIA! KEEP KEEPIN ON AND DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS...CAUSE YOUR NETWORTH DETERMINES YOUR NETWORK!  FOR DANCE IS MORE THAN JUST POWDER ON THE FLOOR, IT'S A MOVEMENT!   LET'S WORK IT!
BARBARA..............LOVE YOU ALL, MY HOUSE FAMILY!

It saddens me to know the truth of what you speak. Let's hope you call to arms takes heart. As someone who grew up on Chicago House, I felt more at home recently in London than I do these days at home in da Chi.

I am sure the economy has a lot to do with the low turnout.also people are less interested in talent these days & more interested in Image.how many Barbra tuckers,Martha washes or Debra coxes have come out lately?.when you don't demand quality you won't get it.record producers are in desperate need of a wake up call.keep doing your thing & making a difference.
all my best cobykoehl

I feel you. I look at clubs and venues and just see it as a bunch of marketing and clique-esque groups trying to look cool. It's unfortunate but you just have to keep being yourself. I've come through so much in my life to say that I stand tall and do what I want. That includes whatever I like spiritually and musically.

On a side note, it was never about progressive, house, drum n bass, whatever, it was about ALL OF US T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R.

hey Barbara its sad to say that we are no longer Jackin to the sound of the Underground!where occassionally the Odd track would make it mainstream...House was a Home & a Feeling!NOW Everyone is Some Kinda DJ or producer...& Anyone "THINKS" theyre A Diva...As A Guy So Rightly Pointed out How Often Do we Get A Barbara Tucker Or Martha wash....Not Often!!!!And Today With Our Current Climate for CELEBRITY Worldwide we are infiltrated with the realms of Reality TV stars also branching into music & DJ ing....and of course that then goes into the clubscene and house music...i think alot of these factors are tarnishing the title of House Music.
See Dont Get Me wrong I am a huge Lover Of Music in all forms but every week more shit gets released and they have the audacity to call it house!

I Think Next Year You Need To Put Out BTs Table.....Multicultural Food...a Melting Pot!

You Gotta Educate These Guys!

Anyway All The Best Barbara..thanks for your words of wisdom...its good that you care....after all in my eyes you are one of the Shapers & Key Elements of The History of House!!!!

the..Legendary.. Barbara Tucker!!!!

Love u xx

I am very saddened that you had to write this but in the same breath am grateful you took the time to say what had to be said and hope your words fall on the ears of those that need to hear it..I once asked a friend how they were doing and they told me they were busy being blessed and they were right so just keep passin it on ..keep on reachin..keep on teaching..I respect every ones right to create but I been here long enough to know that those who have something real to say will stay and all the rest will most definitely fade away.As long as there are real people like you all ...House will never die...MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT

DJ/Producer J'Shon aka Knotty

This post is so much the truth. Reading it alone gave me the chills because you are 100% correct and you're also talking to me. As and DJ and producer of house music for over 10 years ( I have crates of tracks you have done), I know myself I should have been there, like you said a song has a meaning a message, let's step up and represent. It might not meaning anything to you but by feeling the way I have been feeling and thinking the way I have been thinking, and then reading this post I know this was meant for me to read. Thank you and God Bless and you will be seeing Jersey represent.
Keep an eye open for Trower Music Group/ DJ J'Shon

Yes, Lady Barbara ... It's sad to see the House movement head in the "look at me... I'm a promoter/DJ/producer" direction. It's not about the gathering of Life and Music anymore .... It should be all love and spirit for House... sidenote: I danced my ass of to your "I get lifted" last night at Cenci in Atlanta!! Amen to sweat.............

Wow! Barbara, you are very right! What has happened to the love! Can we be so locked down by industry that we as singers, song writers and producers get caught in this pit of non creativity? "Scary" Not sure how or why we have become like this.
But as you said we all must step up to the plate and keep the movement alive!!
