CONSCIOUS SOUNDS A GO ROUND
Peace my good friends I do hope all is blessed on your side and the most high guide yoiur stride.
I do hope everything is copacetic, upfull and bright in your life. Spring the season of new life is almost upon us.I hope you are enjoying the fruits of the season with family and loved ones
It was my displeasure again to view the 08 grammies the award for music excellence. Again the Reggae award was not televised. I tell you my friends what a disrespect that is and how long will it be l that way? We need to get up, stand up, stand up for our rights! We need to use email to let the television producers know they our not serving our needs as far as reggae goes.We reggae artist and fans need to rise up as one and demand more reggae videos on the music stations and coverage of major reggae concerts and awards. You might be saying, " but Najashi? How could I make a difference? I am just one person" What you may not know is that its easy to get in touch with any major or local network. Just google the name of the network or station... especially MTV and MTV2, go to their home page and write them a simple, direct email like " Dear Sir or Madam. I notice a lack of reggae programming on ur station. It is my favorite music, and I would love to see more reggae programming.I would watch your station more often if they carried reggae videos, interviews with artists, and concert footage" See? just 2 minutes and you made your contribution. One personmay not make much impact but a united front of reggae lovers? Jah Army as they say. There is an excellent TV show on cable in NYC called Rockers that the longtime producer and friend of Bob Marley, Earl Chin hosts. He has interviews and music and has been on for years. No reason that show or similar ones, or even say a cooking show featuring healthy simple Ital meals could be aired.
As the new genrartion of conscious music makers walks in the door you have to ask yourself, "will this new crop of talented artist let the same things happen?"
Does the industry have any regards for the universal appeal and worldwide notoriety of reggae music?
You must ask yourself that question.
Queen Ifrica the fiyah woman from Jamaica... she bring much needed vibes in reggae, bringing woman and many issues to the forefront along with beautiful fresh vocal stylings.
Groups like Midnite from St Croix with the intense sounds and lyrical quality, Pressure from the Virgin Islands with his hit song love and affection, Jah Melody from Trinidad, Anthony B, Lutan Fiyah, Gentleman , Tarrus Riley...those artists are my pick to really blow up this year as the summer reggae concert season begins. There so many great new artists from around the globe... they are some of the new blood that is running through the sleeping giant which is reggae music. Truly sometimes when I think about it all the talent out there is overwhelming. I give thanks to the Most High for endowing the sweet earth with so much extroadinary musical talent to make everyday life a constant celebration
So this is time that we step up and make our voices heard along with the songs that is sung.No time like the present as the old folks say.
Reggae muisc is the infectious vibes that is needed even more you see how the worlds is. and what plights we have all over the globe.
Well reggae is a healing for hurt and needy not the money hungry and greedy. The light will shine.
But we must be the one to turn on the swicth and keep the momentum on the rise. that is only way we shall get the prize.
Where are the legends of concious music? Who are they talking to? And why are they not talking to the folks at areas like the National Academy of Rrecording Arts and Science and asking them what is the situation with not televising the Reggae award for the world to see. Come on Rita marley, Beres Hammond, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, Capleton, Sizzla, Luciano, Jr Reid, and any Marley child... speak up for the genre of muisc that you love and participate in making We respect and admire all of you and your excellenent works. All of you and more have paved
the way for many to follow but the path is still in need of paving we can..t and must not stop you feel me.
Please speak up. for it is a shame that Bob Marley was voted artist of the decade and still we are in the same position that is a shame.
Is it up to the new generation to make this happen what needs to be done? If so then we must start to write a new chapter in this book.
Wake up and live... please just wake up. I wish you all well my good friends, and look forward to next month when we will address more interesting topics concerning reggae music and conscious lifestyle. Always remember Ital keep you vital. love and peace in Najashi
