DEMO OF THE MONTH
January 2008: "Suicide Drone 73"

I got a new synthesizer called Dave Smith Instruments Evolver. I like the
name of it. I also very much like how it's built and the way it makes noise.
It's tiny: about the size of a VHS-cassette, if anyone can remember those,
but it can make huge sounds. I was trying out the way it responds to actual
playing (no programming, just playing the keyboard) and found that it is
much more responsive than I expected it to be. So I made a simple melodic
loop and fooled around with the settings.

The beat is 2 different Roland CR-78 loops and a Roland TR-808 running
through a single Roland Space Echo and a compressor.

This is not a typical Covenant thing at all. But as some people know by now,
when I'm left to my own devices things turn out a little different. I don't
make songs. I make fragments or very long things out of which little
fragments can be extracted to make songs. I know it sounds backwards. It is.
And I like that.

Happy New Year btw!

/Joakim (Helsingborg Jan 2, 2008)

Nice toy (and I do remember VHS-cassettes!*lol*) I look forward to hear it in a new complete song - probably an instrumental track...;)
Would you give us listeners a hint, in case you show such a track/song on the profileplayer as "Demo Of The Month"?

I liked the mechanical noises quite a bit, but I have to admit I kept hoping the percussion would do something a bit.. more. Harder, perhaps a little less chugga chugga. I hope that makes sense. Interesting track!

Wow! It would work really well as part of the soundtrack to a sci-fi movie. I love it.

I am in love with the part from 00:20 - 00:47. It sounds wonderful and I bet you'll end up making amazing sounding things with your new box. I look forward to hearing them. Thanks for including us in your creative process. I feel honored to get a glimpse of how your magic is made.

Happy New Year, fellows.

You're definitely "The Men" with these new sounds, very urban, dark and claustrophobiac mood we like it.

Cool stuff!

I really like it, this could be the rise of a pretty cool and very atmospheric stuff.

During the first moments of the short instrumental I had *Suicide* in mind, the early NYC pioneers of electronic avantgarde. Surely not a bad cross reference! ;-)

I really love it to listen to ne Covenant in its most embryonic form! Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
Niggels

there is a really really cool sequence from 0:29 min to 0:47 min (kind of "dada-dadada-dooooh"), it repeats at 1:07... that really sounds like the basis for a cool new song! so please go on! :-)

I like this. A bit of a harder edge to it but I can go for a harder sound now and again. I think this could be very cool- the first bit really grabbed me and would make me sit up and listen to a song that starts out that way. Whether I'd listen again and again would depend on the song in its entirity, but this is definitely a hook.
