We are a hookah lounge (if you don't know what that is, look it up...or just come in and try one. It doesn't hurt worse than reality t.v.)
We are a cafe. We supply caffeine and other assorted beverages and edibles. Our coffee and tea is free and unlimited. You just pay a door charge of either $3 or $5 depending on whats going on.
We are an art gallery- art that you most likely wouldn't see in a doctor's office. ( ...not your doctor anyway...)
And most importantly we are a live performance venue for real artists including musicians, dancers, poets, comedians, etc. Nothing watered down or made easy on the mind. Life is intense and so should be our expression within it.
Swing State is what us artists out there have all been waiting for and thought we might never find in our day and age...especially in Lake County
My name is Ian and I've been a struggling artist/musician for many years. A struggle resulting from a strong attention to my own artistic truth while trying to fight off the sell-out mentality so widely and popularly accepted in our modern art world/society (y'know the copy cats and corporate money mongors?). And I've always done it my way- with no compromises. But alas, thats not what the world is always looking for.
And I know there are others out there who understand what I mean.
Swing State is an attempt to empower these artists, free thinkers and unfortunate minorities of sypathetic Cosmic Comedians that have not yet been overly brainwashed by the rest of society...for at least as long as we can. Hopefully very long.
So if you care about art and/or your version of it- be creative. Express it. Come to Swing State instead of watching t.v. or going to a bar or whatever other wastes of life and time exist in the present.
Join us. Join the subculture that is usually hiding in the woodwork.

p.s.-we are all ages because art has no age limits. In fact, kids are the ones that need the most help finding a way to express themselves in our society. They are in more prisons than the adults of the world.

from Chicago: take Hwy.94 North (West) to Grand Ave. (Rt.132)west. go down 3-5 miles to Rt. 45
from Milwaukee: same as Chicago except go South (East) on 94
from Libertyville, Mundelein, Grayslake, etc.: get on Rt.45 north to Grand Ave.
from Lake Villa, Antioch, Richmond, etc.: get on Grand Ave (Rt. 132) east to Rt. 45
it's really quite easy, really
