Guys,
I've noticed a lot of people lately looking at my oddly when I speak in positive tones for Obama and liberal philosophies in general.
I'll start out with a quote from JFK
But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." - JFK
I have done a lot of research and I've decided to make my choice for Obama after finding that Ron Paul did not have a chance and was essentially blacklisted from his own party.
A lot of how I am voting has to do with personal reasons and not wanting to bite the hand that feeds.
I do believe in the democratic values of the 40's, and 50's and I do not appreciate the party being hijacked by special interest groups. The party was intended and is still there for those who are working class and who WORK hard for their families.
I could go into a long historical diatribe about liberal philosophies stemming from the enlightenment and John Locke but I won't.
I'll explain some quick things.
I will not bite the hand that feeds.
1. Liberal views helped ensure my grandfather kept his job and had protection from companies who DID take advantage of the average employee.
2. Those "liberal" unions also helped ensure health care for my family back then and now for my parents now.
3. They were there for my father when he was laid off from GM and provided health care for my mother, brother, sister and myself as well as ensured my father would get training in order to obtain another job and to increase his viability as an employee should he ever venture outside of auto manufacturing (Which he is now).
4. My mother is Venezuelan and was welcomed with the American dream when she came back to this country, legally of course. I don't believe the "right wing" has immigrant's rights and dreams in their agenda and would close off this country completely to immigration if they had the choice. That is NOT the American way. I do believe in complying with the law and I don't believe in illegal immigration so please don't place that in my mouth.
My family linage comes from HARD WORK. We do not think of handouts as freebies. We do not appreciate people saying we don't know what family values are or are not - this is God's place to judge and you damn well know that. We come from the blood that helped BUILD this country with hard labor and hard work.
One of my reasons for joining the USAF was to give back to the country that gave so much to my own family.
So before you simply dismiss me as someone who is star-dazzled by shiny campaign promises and great speeches, THINK AGAIN.
I am making my choice based upon personal philosophy, history, personal reasons and I believe my choice in Obama is wise because I feel he is what our country needs in this time and I will be the first to criticize him if he goes astray.
