This past Tuesday night on ’American Idol’ I was pleasantly surprised by Jason Castro singing Dolly Parton’s "Travelin’ Through". You couldn’t miss "JESUS" in that song (lyrics included below). I was even more amazed on Wednesday’s results show when Jesus was sung out clearly in two more songs.

The Clark Brothers, performed "This Little Light of Mine." They were the ’winners’ of "The Next Great American Band" last December. Though I didn’t particularly like the punk bluegrass guitar ending. I did like the words they used (posted below). The song sounds better on their myspace page:

Then Dolly Parton  sang her new song "Jesus & Gravity"
After the performance, Dolly joked with host Ryan Seacrest, saying "I’ve got Jesus and you’ve got Simon!"  and Ryan’s response was, "I got the short end of the stick." You can see Dolly’s performance here:

The lyrics:

TRAVELIN’ THROUGH’

Well I can’t tell you where I’m going, I’m not sure of where I’ve been
But I know I must keep travelin’ till my road comes to an end
I’m out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it
I’m a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit

Like a poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song
I’m just a weary pilgrim trying to find what feels like home
Where that is no one can tell me, am I doomed to ever roam
I’m just travelin’, travelin’, travelin’, I’m just travelin’ on

Questions I have many, answers but a few
But we’re here to learn, the spirit burns, to know the greater truth
We’ve all been crucified and they nailed Jesus to the tree
And when I’m born again, you’re gonna see a change in me

God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain
Oh sweet Jesus if you’re out there, keep me ever close to you
As I’m stumblin’, tumblin’, wonderin’, as I’m travelin’ thru

The Clark Brothers: "THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE"

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.....
Jesus is the light, I’m gonna let Him shine....
I won’t let Satan blow it out, I’mm gonna let Him shine...

Jesus on the main line, tell Him what you want...
You can ring Him up, dial Him up and tell Him what you want
You can go direct, don’t delay, tell Him what you want
Jesus on the main line now

And if you need a healing, tell Him what you want....

I don't know if you noticed, but American Idol jumped on the Jesus band wagon again this past Thursday opening the show with a worship song (don't know the name of it). It lacked the annointing, but was surprising nonetheless... perhaps hollywood is finally realizing that Christians will only tolerate so much.
