Current mood:  relaxed
Well, I am now officially worried that my grand plan of not working is going by the wayside. After working a job and having an excessive amount of liquid cashflow I have developed a bad habit of spending excessively... damn The one thing that pisses me off the most is that I have been so busy with catching up on my schoolwork and preparing for last weekends trip to LA that I haven't been able to begin writing.
RECAP: I quit my job at Zoka so that I might focus more on writing.

THE SMOG IS NOT FOG IN LA

So as I stated earlier I spent the majority of my time last week preparing for a trip to LA. Why would anybody go down to that armpit of the world, if not for movies. Answer: exactly. Marty, Matt and I went down to the Creative Screenwriting Expo in order to pitch Clemency. While Matt got a paid for trip (he was there actually to shoot the seminars) I had to eat into our already giant debt. I tried my best to keep costs down, but things were so crazy that I couldn't ever pack a lunch and had to therefore purchase food from the overpriced cafeteria. I tell you that the weekend was stressful right? We'll get into that later, but let's leave it right now at that I smoked two packs over three days. I met some very nice people while down there, and fell in love with Manhattan Beach. When I move down to LA this next year I am going to try my best to live in a similar area. It's most appealing factor? No, not the beaches. No, not the bitches. (heh) its the clean air. Now that's all relative when you're talking about LA, but really it is much cleaner. I felt like a fool when three days into the trip I looked up at the sky (at night mind you) and suddenly realized that the haze covering the city that I had assumed to be fog was in fact SMOG! Pure unadulterated, brown as shit, thick as soup, smog that you could almost taste as you breathed. That is one aspect of LA that I am not going to enjoy. I'm gonna buy a mask and walk around like a SARS fearing Chinese peasant... or wacko-jacko. I'll also buy one of those sweet ass airfilters they sell at the Sharper Image...Oh yeah! So back to the trip. My entire purpose for LA was to pitch the film, and pitch I did. I was a pitching maniac and by the end of three straight days of promoting Clemency, I felt like a pro. Of course nobody could even come close to the kind of pitch Marty and I had put together. Our natural teamwork coupled with a sweet as banging trailerQuicktime 7 required made for a very successful weekend. Every company that we spoke to wanted to know more and wanted to read the screenplay. It was not a buying crowd, but they weren't definitely interested in the work that we could do. I should know in a month or so, whether or not we have any bites from the companies we approached. Some of the more recognizable names include: New Line, Warner Brothers and Universal Studios. Excited? I am.
