In amongst the mediocre and the shit that I regularly receive through both the physical post box and the virtual inbox there is occasionally a gem, a jewel, a nugget of light to brighten my day. They appear once in a blue moon, and are increasingly rare in these days of hyperbole, heresy and the tedious boasts of the press release. This record is one such nugget, in fact It's more like a huge heaving slab of something so precious it has yet to be named. Except it has been named, it's called 'Sounds From the Cave' - well done Mr Chop for unearthing this for everyone to hear. Record of the year so far!

DOM SERVINI (WAH WAH 45s)This EP is great. Jazz&Milk again surprises me with something new and different from what i am used to listen. Mr. Chop is a daring artist, dwelling around jazz and funk from outer space, with a heavy dose of psychedelic moods. These are tracks for body and mind, with a mysterious, abstract message hidden within the notes.

Bleibt sowieso die Frage im Raum stehen, wie die Zukunft der Labels, vor allem der großen Labels, aussehen wird. Die Zahlen der verkauften Einheiten gehen zurück, doch eine akribisch arbeitender Kreis von Imprints unterschiedlichster Musik arbeite den aktuellen Begebenheiten entgegen. Mit der Kraft der Kreativität, Entschlossenheit und Kompromisslosigkeit die es dafür braucht um sich abzuheben. Jazz & Milk Records bringen diese Komponenten zusammen. Mit der Veröffentlichung von Mr.Chop „Sound from the Cave" EP gehen sie abenteuerliche Wege in einem anfangs fast den Atem stoppen. 60s Library Funk, weird jazz, nach vorne preschende, harte Drums, blaxploitation Sounds mischen sich mit Anleihen von Krautrock der 70er, psychodelischer Funkyness und weiss der Teufel noch, nur positiv gemeint. Hier fliegen einem die Soundfetzen um die Ohren. Indische Folklore, Oldschool Synthies, Wah Wah Gitarrenriffs. Mr.Chop suhlt sich jedoch nicht nur in den Sounds der vergangen drei Jahrzehnten, sondern legt durchaus Feuer in Form von flotten HipHop-Bombenteppichbeats unter diese Armada an Samples und Live-Instrumentalisierungen. Ein Soundtrack für einen Film bei dem Crank & Shaft zusammen Quentin Tarrantino verhauen. Bäng!

also ich komm nicht umhin zu sagen: wieder eimal eine knaller ep die da erscheinen wird. ich weiß zwar nicht woher du immer wieder die neuen leute bekommst (mr. chop sagt mir rein gar nichts) aber das ist irgendwie auch egal, ist ja das jazz & milk markenzeichen.
die platte ist rund, sie macht laune und passt hervorragend ins j&m programm. das schöne an dieser und auch den anderen ist, dass die tracks so "gehaltvoll" sind, dass man auch nach dem 10 mal hören noch neue sachen entdeckt, was toll ist. insgesamt ist der stil im vergleich zu anderen releases gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber gerade das reizt.von mir 8 von 10 punkten (das artwork gefällt mir übrigens auch sehr gut)
