Current mood:  nostalgic

it has been a recent debate and wanted to get others ideas...  SOO MANY performers put themselves under the "drag queen" umbrella, but few actually fit the actual meaning (google it)

another question.. what would you think of a show where all the entertainers take the makeup off at the end and come back onstage as men?  I think this would be a fabulous way to change things up (especially in Chicago)... plus it would feature those entertainers that do it as an artform, not a lifestyle.

your thoughts are appreciated...

I think having the drag queens come out at the end of the show as boys is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING idea. A total crowd pleaser. For the crowd to actually see what these beautiful women ACTUALLY look like every other day would be a great way to show that it truly is an illusion. I say go for it Richard. You know I am always on your side in these instances.

First and foremost a drag queen is genetically born a man, but it goes beyond that. A drag queen LIVES as a man. He shops in the mens section of a department store, he buys mens shoes, he wears men's underwear (assuming he wears em). He does not buy bras and panties, he doesn't buy coverup for daytime, etc.
He is a MAN!

Its offensive for those who live as women or who have gone so far as to become full women to call themselves drag queens. They are not. They may be genetically male, but they live as women, and therefore they do not fall into the category of drag queen. Its ashame that so many bars, entertainers, patrons, etc. think that its acceptable to put these people into the same category.

If you want to be a woman and live as a woman, get a job as a stripper, not a drag queen. You'll probably make more money and you can continue to be treated like a woman.....stop trying to be a DUDE cuz you're not!

I think the whole taking the makeup off idea is an interesting idea, but it could be difficult. For me if I decide to put a bump on my head....that makes it difficult....or some people like to keep the illusion going until they leave. But I guess everyone will have their own thoughts on this.....I'm mixed!

Well I am not going to look up the definition, I am going to give you my opinion which I believe to also be the truth. :) Correct me if I'm wrong! A "drag queen" is a gay club kid who dresses in drag for FUN while going out to clubs to get attention. They may also do it for sexual reasons. A "female impersonator" is one who dresses in drag to entertain on the stage. One is for leisure and the other one is a profession and an art form. Most people we know and love to watch are not drag queens at all, but "female impersonators.
" And you, my darling, we're a fabulous one who I was very pleased to meet at the Dunes last summer when you handed down!

I loved your opinion, but YOUR WRONG!
For the record, I AM NOT A DRAG QUEEN!
A gay club kid? To get attention? Sexual Reasons?
What little town are you from? Sounds like Fun.

Reading this was just too Funny!
When talking about any form of Drag, or Female impersonation please take into account that Entertainment comes in may forms. There is an art to the craft and I respect anyone who makes that effort to create and give the illusion of becoming something else. If you put on a wig and a dress and you are obviouly wrong in all ways but still have fun doing it. Then GOOD FOR YOU! You don't like it? TURN AWAY. Don't ruin other people's fun just because you do not like it.

I have to check the new version to the Local Gay Hand Book but I remember reading that you can not call yourself a drag queen if you only did it once for Halloween. I think the rule was: You have to dress up more then once, have your own hair, outfits, shoes and be able to apply your own face when approached by the gay police. You know that they take away your gay card if they think you are trying to call yourself a drag queen when in FACT YOU ARE NOT. I have seen it happen here in Chicago like twice.
Love ya -SAL-E

Okay, I have read every blog on here, and now I have to voice my opinion. I think that it would be a great idea for (drag-queens) to come back out as men...that would give a litle twist to the show. I can also appreciate everyones comments. I find it a little offensive that the person (being transgendered) I am is looked down upon. Why is there this segregation line in the world of female impersonation. To me a Drag-Queen is someone like Lady Bunny,Divine or Rupaul and alot of the girls from Wig-stock...that style of the art form is drag to me. n the other hand Transexuals and alot of the boy-queens I see are female impersonators not drag queens because its important to get on stage and look like that girl instead of having big yellow hair and total drama in the eyes and just a avant garde look to you. Now I think that it is sad that the artform of Drag is being cast out in chicago, because just like me before most of them were transexuals they were transitioning from drag queen to female impersonator. Keep in mind I am a transgendered individual. I just hate the prejudices. We are already looked down upon in society. So why is it that we have to deal with Gay Man against Flamer ,Flamer against Crossdresser,Crossdresser against Drag Queen, Drag Queen against Transexuals. People we are gonna implode if we dont stop the hate and just love each other .

I agree, Niomi! We cannot move forward as a society if we are pit against each other. As for the issue, I know many transexuals who do not say that they are drag queens simply because there is more investment to what they do than just buying a dress and donning a wig. I would not call Mimi Marks a "drag queen". Entertainer, yes; female impersonator, yes; drag queen, no.

For the record, I am not a drag queen. I'm a headliner.
