What a tough ass season. To watch I mean lol. Now, part of being a Houston sports fan is learning how to put up with the heartbreak. I'm not counting Dynamo here.
Texans are never going to be anything in my opinion. We were better off with the Oilers, but of course Houston didn't want to support the team and now they're gone. The Rockets have always been at least a decent team. They're good at making it to the playoffs as of late, but not getting past the second round. The Astros haven't made it to the playoffs since 2005.
Here is my grade for the Astros split into four quarters starting from the beginning of the season to the end.
1st - F
2nd - A
3rd - D
4th - If there was anything lower than an F I'd give it to them.
Main problem = Ed Wade.
I'm willing to say Ed Wade is worse than Tim Purpura. Ed Wade must have some shit in his eye from sky diving all the time, because I have no idea what he saw in Jason Michaels, Jason Smith, Mike Hampton, Russ Ortiz, and Chris Coste. They are all money down the drain. A bunch of has-beens and never-was' that were never really major contributors to the team.
He should seriously, if he manages to miraculously keep his job for next season, allocate at least 50% of the budget for a better minor league system. Stop the bleeding now and hope that the minor league system produces great players for a future season. The other 50% I'd allocate on players we all KNOW are going to be good and healthy, not these old players like Mike Hampton and Russ Ortiz.
My 2 cents for now. I'd put in a whole wad of cash if I had enough energy, but the Astros organization is so problematic. I tip my hat at Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman for having so much patience with the team and it's lackluster management.
I'm still an Astros fan until I die or the team gets sold. Look at the bright side though! Chicago Cubs are not making it to the playoffs! lmao It'll be another hundred years before they even make it to the world series.
Who is my money on for the World Series this season? For the National League it's Colorado and for the American League it's New York with Colorado winning it all.
