Buille 2 available exclusively from Crow Valley Music.
Buille
is the title of the project put together by Armagh born brothers Niall
and Caoimhín Vallely back in 2004. Their eponymous release of that
year, which was produced by Donald Shaw of Capercaillie and came out on
the Vertical Records label, received wide-spread acclaim and was
described as “ …a classic of new Irish music" (Living Tradition) and
“…as fresh a breath that's blown through traditional (and roots)
circles in a long, long time." (Irish Times). They’re back now with a
new album titled “Buille 2”. This is a much more ambitious project
featuring more large scale compositions and arrangements and utilizing
a much bigger ensemble while at the same time maintaining the
unmistakable Buille sound through which the concertina and piano of the
two brothers shines through. The music on the new album displays the
brothers’ grounding and deep understanding of traditional Irish music
while at the same time integrating eclectic influences from the worlds
of jazz & blues, Eastern Europe and contemporary classical music.
The music on the new album is made up entirely of new compositions arranged for an ensemble featuring:
Niall Vallely - concertina and Caoimhin Vallely - piano
with:
Zoë Conway – fiddle, Neil Yates – trumpet, Cillian Vallely – uilleann
pipes, Ed Boyd - guitar, Kate Ellis – cello, Karen Dervan – viola,
Brian Morrissey – bodhrán/percussion/banjo, and Paul Meehan - guitar.
