Today is 9/11.
There really isn't much to say. So much has gone on in eight years.
Damn. Eight years? It doesn't seem like that long ago.
My sister made me a blanket & pillow sham in September of 2001. It
was my Christmas gift. I know it was September because she always
stitches in her signature, the month, and the year. It was the only one
she did that year. There was no reason why she only made that one, at
least none related to 9/11. I only bring this up because, even after
heavy use, that blanket is still here. It gets pulled out when we have
company sleep on the couch. The pillow sham still encases the patched
feather pillow I have had forever. It has been in constant use since
Christmas of 2001. Just this year has there been a rip appear in the
fabric; not along a seam, but in the fabric. I blame the cats in
combination with the washing machine.
It is amazing the random things we remember when tragedy strikes. I
still have the letter from Laura Bush to all students in the USA that
was released the next day.
As these eight years have passed, I have known many who have enlisted
into one military branch or another, all because of that sunshine
filled Tuesday morning. I even know some who enlisted, not because of
9/11, but because they knew it was their path. I am quite sad to say
that not all of them have returned. I know some who have returned half
of who they were, mentally.
It is a difficult thing they do. I have written a few things and
dedicated them directly to some of the people I know/knew. The rest of
the things I have written that involve military are dedicated to everyone.
My thanks to those that I know, and those that I don't.
If you are in the military, read my blog, and wish to be added, feel free to [email me] a pic and which branch; I will add to this post as I get them.
