His locks were long-down to his back,
He looked like he worked out everyday
He stopped at my feet in his taxi cab
And asked, “Montego Bay?”
I got in and began to stare
At his incredibly stunning frame
Imagining things I could do to him,
Then he asked me my name
Before long, we were in conversation
About what we liked and where we were from
We chatted as though we were alone in the car
Until I reached my destination
Reluctantly, I got out of the car
And said, “It was nice meeting you,”
He asked, “Can I see you again sometime?”
I asked, “How much do I owe you?”
He said, “Don’t worry, the fare is on me
I feel like you’re already my friend,”
I said, “Ok, thanks for the ride
Maybe we will meet again.”
The following day around the same time
I saw his car coming down the street
He stopped before I could put out my hand
And I breathed a sigh of relief
Very little could I do to hide
The broad smile I had on my face
I hadn’t been so excited in a while,
My heart had begun to race
I swallowed and said, “So how are you?
I see you’re alone this time,”
He replied, “I purposely didn’t pick up anyone;
Now that I see you, I’m doing fine.”
“So where are you headed today?” he asked,
“I’ll take you wherever you want.”
“I’m already there, are you surprised?
I had nothing else planned.”
With that, he took his eyes off the road,
Turned sideways and looked straight at me
“Wow, I feel really lucky today,”
And then we crashed into a tree.
The good thing is that we were not going fast
So neither of us was hurt
A bit shaken up, “What luck!” I said,
He replied, “It could have been worse.”
“Are you okay?” a passerby asked,
We called back, “Yes thanks, we’re doing alright,”
We got out to see what damage there was
Thankfully, only one broken light
“You see what your beautiful face has caused?”
He asked jokingly then I shook my head
“Don’t blame it on the woman now,”
And I really meant what I said.
“So now that we’ve been through so much
May I ask you out for a drink?”
“Sure you may go ahead and ask
But I’ll say ‘no’ is what I think
Being sober, you managed to drive
Your car into a tree
So if we were to have a drink,
You’d probably end up killing me
I had fun, don’t think I did not
This surely doesn’t happen every day
I’ll definitely have a funny story to tell,”
Then I turned to walk away
He then proceeded to explain
That everyone makes mistakes
And that he deserved a second chance,
One I should be willing to take
So I turned around and said, “okay,
But after the drink, I will drive
Don’t think I’m doing it for you alone;
Things go around in life.”
With that, we got back into the car
And drove to a bar on the seaside
We drank Dragon Stouts and shared a spliff
Until around a quarter to five
“So tell me more about yourself,
Are you seeing anyone?”
“Actually yes, kind of,” he said,
“Well, I was seeing a real good woman.”
“And what caused you to break up?
Did the good woman break your heart?”
“Sort of but it really is my fault
Why we’re still apart
She did something that caused me to be
Very disappointed in her
And she asked me for a second chance –
One I’m not sure she deserves.”
“Well, do you want to know what I think?”
“Yes, of course,” he replied.
I said, “Everything that happened since we met
Is to get her back in your life
You are trying to be with me –
A woman you don’t even know
And I bet you’re really just acting out
Of anger and being on the rebound
See, I gave you a second chance
After you crashed into the tree
I think you should do the same for her
I’d want someone to do that for me.”
“Maybe you’re right,” is what he said,
“But I really do like you.”
“Of course you do, I am your friend
Now go do what you have to do.”
“She’ll want to know what happened to the car.”
“So? Just tell her the truth,
I’m sure it won’t matter much to her
As long as she’s back with you.”
He said, “Thanks, let me take you back home,”
I replied, “No, it’s okay,
Just keep your eyes on the road
And get to your woman safe.”
And so for about an hour or two
I walked alone on the sand
And thought about what had happened that day
And why I had met that man
He might’ve thought that I had been
A blessing, an angel to him
But he had been an angel to me,
I’ll tell you what I mean
If things didn't happen the way they did
We’d most likely have had a one night stand
And so I felt really fulfilled
With the kind of evening we had
I had also recently been
A victim of a broken heart
And I had promised to make as many men pay
For the pain my ex had wrought
But with the hitting of the tree,
I lost the desire I had
And from that day, I haven’t had
Another one night stand
