Who Gives Kudos:

I first became aware of The Cheyenne Doll this past summer of 07, and was impressed by her unmistakable talent as a songwriter that draws from what seemed to be semi real-life situations. The song that first caught my attention at her myspace was "Blood On My Hand" ofcourse, which after just one listen, inspired me enough to put her on the list that continues to grow to this day, full of rare, exceptional songwriters and unsigned artists that we come across from all over the world. Just as there seems to be a large amount of interesting, original artists from the region of France, The Cheyenne Doll is without question, one of the best so far. The self-titled, and mainly self-produced CD opens with two live mix' - the first being "Fucking Tragedy" which is an up-tempo slightly punked out light rock tune that seems to have gotten the crowd excited anyway. Next comes one more live track called "Flo's House" which is a more jazz influenced rock tune that has a great sounding chorus line near the end. This side of The Cheyenne Doll is not my personal favorite though, I imagine that in France it may be more enjoyed, but the side of the Doll I love the most is the spectacular piano ballads. This is definitely her calling! Songs like "Carmen," or even better yet.. "The End," and "Peaceful Season," these are the songs that bring her deep emotions up to the surface and will raise the hairs on your neck. While listening to this album over and over, I'm beginning to realize that the songs not uploaded at the myspace, with the exception of "Blood On My Hand" and "Carmen," are some of her greatest works of all! "Blood On My Hand (Part 2)" for instance, along with the other three previously mentioned. "Heaven" is the last song on the album and is just the Doll and her piano accompanied with some great choral backing vocals.. This album is one of the best albums I've received in submissions all year, in this genre of music, and I feel lucky to have it! The Cheyenne doll has a very original and sincere vocal that virtually bleeds into the keys of her piano... totally heartfelt, like none other I've heard in quite some time.
