The East Lansing Film Festival (ELFF) is currently accepting applications for the following open (unpaid) internship positions: Development and Events Management Intern, Marketing and Film Publicity Intern, and Accounting Intern. Job descriptions and qualifications for each position are explained below. Applicants must be available to start immediately and work till May 2009. ELFF is able to work with faculty and administration at Michigan State University, LCC, Cooley, or other local educational institutions to grant college credit for these internships.
Development and Events Management Internship:
Responsibilities:
This position provides intern with intensive, hands-on experience in non-profit management and arts administration. Intern works directly with the ELFF/LMFC Program Directors to plan for ELFS events and the 12th Annual East Lansing Film Festival, March 18th-26th, 2009. Intern will be expected to commit 10-12 hours per week in order to: • Assist with all aspects of event planning and production • Coordinate the logistics of East Lansing Film Society (ELFS) screenings and seasonal Film Festival events (such as the local 48/5 Filmmaking Contest) • Recruit volunteers for the 12th Annual Film Festival • Identify ways to maximize resources and growth opportunities for ELFF • Plan specifics of ELFF events, including the lodging, entertainment and travel arrangements for visiting directors or filmmakers, confirmation of speakers and panels for film screenings, coordination of technical equipment, screening rooms and venues for parties • Organize and archive database of films • Help bring ELFF fundraising goals to fruition, and ensure that events are economically well performed and consistent with budgetary guidelines • Provide on-site events support to ELFF staff and programmers
Marketing and Film Publicity Intern:
Responsibilities:
This internship is designed to give real-world experience in marketing and promotion of a nonprofit cultural organization. Intern works directly with the ELFF/LMFC Program Directors to secure community support for ELFS events and publicize the 12th Annual East Lansing Film Festival, March 18th-26th, 2009. Intern will be expected to commit 10-12 hours per week in order to: • Solicit potential advertisers and sponsors for festival • Prepare and disseminate strategic communications, promotional and press materials for ELFF • Help create the most effective presentation of festival materials. This may take the form of flyering, meeting with community leaders and groups, emailing, going on local radio or TV channels, communicating over cultural and media outreach lists, updating the ELFF website, Facebook and Myspace pages and so on. • Ensure that information on ELFF's upcoming events and the festival is available to all community centers, cultural institutions, as well as all ethnic media around the city • Assist in identifying and optimizing opportunities for local cultural groups and organizations to get involved with ELFF • Work with Festival Programmers to promote/cross-promote Festival films and raise community awareness about the 12th Annual Film Festival.
Qualifications: All interns will help with the overall direction of the 12th ELFF. Applicants must be able to work to work independently, stick to deadlines, perform consistently to provide agreed upon deliverables, be accountable for their share of work, attend weekly staff meetings and briefings and report to ELFF staff, and commit to staffing the ELFF office for at least 5 hours/week. Good writing and communication skills are essential, as is familiarity with Microsoft Office programs. Some familiarity or interest in films and film festivals desirable. Strong preference for applicants with familiarity with local businesses, cultural and student groups, and non-profit organizations in the Greater Lansing area.

Accounting Internship:
The East Lansing Film Festival is currently seeking applicants for the ELFF Accounting Internship. This internship is designed to give real-world experience in non-profit financial management and accountability.
The accounting intern will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and balancing the Film Festival books. This internship is unpaid, and requires approximately 10 hours/month.
