March 20, 2009 - Friday

Current mood:  awake
So recording our album has been postponed until Sunday, March 29, so no news there.  Things are about to get crazy!  We've been pretty busy with fitting in rehearasals around all of our random work schedules, and its about to get busier!  We are very excited though!

We are in the process of getting our EP, "Home Soon," up for sale on the web and will keep you posted when that comes through.  Actually, the EP was just reviewed in the Charleston Preview!  Check it out!

Home Soon
(Psychic Rabbit)

It seems that in the past few years the amount of local artists playing Americana music has flourished here in the Lowcountry.

Cary Ann Hearst, Crowfield, and Mac Leapheart are just a few of the more notable musicians playing the style, which borrows from everything from rock to country.

One of the more recent local Americana bands to emerge on the local scene is White Rhino. In a relatively short time, this band has quietly won fans with a combination of great songwriting and superb musicianship.

One need not look any further than the band's new three-song EP, "Home Soon," which seems to be meant to tide fans over until White Rhino can record a full-length release.

The EP's title track is the real star here. "Home Soon" sounds as if Art Garfunkel is being backed by some wonderful collection of Nashville session players, but in reality it is Aaron Levy on vocals and guitar joined by band mates Ben Jacobs, Daniel Crider, Katie Coleman and Manny Hagman. Bob Hoffnar also contributes some lovely pedal steel playing, and it is that lonesome sound, couples with Coleman's fiddle, that really make the track.

The remaining two tracks, "I Miss the Way I Used to Feel" and "Tell Me a Lie" are great tunes, but it is "Home Soon" that needs to find a home on local radio and beyond. (A-)
