The Stardust was the largest casino in Las Vegas.

When this famous casino first opened in 1958; it had the second poker room to ever open in Vegas! Can you imagine that? The 2nd one ever and now there are hundreds! So October 31st saw a sad day for many as this famous casino closed its doors.

The Stardust was known for its crazy amount -of-light-bulbs decor, it co-starred in the movie "Showgirls", as well as other movies (such as "Swingers") and countless Las Vegas-themed commercials. The famous singer Wayne Newton was known as Mr. Las Vegas, and the Stardust was his home.

You can say that the World Series of Poker derived from the Stardust. In 1985, the "Stairway to the Stars" poker tournament was inaugurated at the Stardust. A $5,000 buy-in tournament resulting in huge success.

The last night at the Stardust brought everyone together where they reminisced and dealers dealt their final hands, and players bet their last dollar, literally.

The Stardust once had the biggest swimming pool in Vegas and had once been the "Big" room in Vegas. The site will be replaced next spring with a $4 billion casino/resort. The new 63-acre facility is slated to open in 2010, and will offer a 140,000 foot casino; it will be one of the largest development projects in Las Vegas history!
