1) Hi Brian. What's up new in Denver, apart of the cars' production?. OK, now you've put out a Cd, tell us for those of the readers who didn't know ADNAUSEAM, what's the love story of this band?:

Hello. Not much new in Denver. The scene is still good. Many good band here: DISMEMBERED FETUS, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, WICKED INNOCENCE, heard of any?. I guess the love story here is ADNAUSEAM started as kids with not much else to do in 1989 but play extreme musik. Fast forward to 1994 when we were mature enough and had money to release the debut demo entitled "Another Horor Of Life". Now in 1997 we release the full length CD called "Desire, Aspire, Inspire, Expire". We play a death/grind style and add in slower, doomed styled parts.

2) Well, I also have a personal question to ask about the ADNAUSEAM's conquest: what's happened between the "Another Horror Of Life" demo and the releasing of the CD?. I mean, I even believed that ADNAUSEAM didn't exist anymore and that you splitted up. No intyerviews in the 'zines or magazines, no demos, no trax on compils; so what's happened until I listened two promo new tracks on a comp. Cd produced by Wild Rags Rec?:

A lot has happened during this time, hell it's been three years. So what. We pretty much put out music when we can. We're not interested in trying to get signed. I guess we move at our own pace. We're all very busy in what we are doing outside of the band. No we haven't broke-up. We have plans for another release, an Ep. We haven't done any interviews in a while, not much to say. Sometimes no news is good news as some bands probably know (Yes maybe like VOMIT SPAWN, COPROPHILIA or LIBIDO AIRBAG - Necrophil). We were pretty much done with promotions with the demo everyone has heard it. So until we had something new there was reason to beat a dead horse. The song, there is only one, on the Wild rags comp, 'Live This' was to let everyone know that something was coming soon from the band. This is the first track on the new Cd. We're back in full strength and look forward to getting our name out again to the fans and lovers of this intense style of music. If you've been disappointed with the scene lately, I think this album comes at a good time.

3) Can we consider that this Cd is the second start point of ADNAUSEAM?. I'm telling that because all the four songs present on the demo 1994 are now on the Cd, and the 2 from the comp Cd on WILD RAGS Rec are too. So, don't get me wrong, but will you also wait for 3 long years before having something new to propose us?:

Yeah, i think it's fair to say it's a second starting point for us. I think a band totally enters a new level of status and promotion when you launch a project such as a Cd as opposed to a demo release that pretty much any band can do. The reasons we put the four demo songs on the new release was for all those that didn't hear the demo can still enjoy these songs and especially for those who have the demo, they can appreciate and hear the updated versions and notice the changes in sound and approach to these songs that then new ADNAUSEAM has transformed them into. You have to admit the songs are still tstrong and deserve the production that they didn't originally get. it won't be another three years before you hear the next ADNAUSEAM.

4) Is this CD an autoproduction?. I didn't see any mark of releasing on the inlay card of it?. Where did you find the founds to press it?. How many copies of it have been pressed?. Until now, how did the sales happen?:

Yes it is. I put it out myself. Horror shop rcords. There will be two more releases under this name. One more ADNAUSEAM and a project band from us and DISMEMBERED FETUS called THROAT LEECH, due out in the fall. We've had good success self producing, promoting and distributing these so nothing will change. We enjoy the freedom of doing things our way without compromise. We used the funds from the merchandise from the demo and of course our own investments. Nothing wrong with this. No rat face, no preasure, no backstabbing, no rip off, just total satisfaction, and quality. The new way. We currently in our first pressing of 500 as of June of 1997. There will be another pressing soon of 500 with small changes in the packaging like we did for the demo. Sales have been what we expected. The demo did well, so it's no surprise the new release will do the sme if not better.

5) The cover art of the Cd is representing an eye, and in the middle of it, is printed (I'd like to use the word "scotch") the picture of the girl in the bathroom with the bloody marks on her body. Explain us the concept of this picture. I'm sure it was decided without any hours of reflection?:

The cover is the second part to the demo. A section of the demo cover. Yes, inserted into the eye. This is sort of the other side to the view. The demo if you can imagine what was the killer saw, and the Cd cover is the view of what the 'Victim' saw. Mirrored of each other if you will. NO, I guess this concept didn't take a lot thought but there aren't any set rules for this I have seen. So what. I know of plenty of names for bands, zines and the like that you might say their names or purpose have fallen short in the reflection side when it came to the original thought. Do you know what I mean?. We've never recruited an artist so we've always been held to make our own through photography. This is definitely something an artist couldn't have drawn and get the same effect that we were after. We're happy with it and think it's original for what it is. A little gore but different.

6) OK, anythin else now: "Desire, aspire, inspire, expire"; I don't know what you would say by it. Can you please, explain us why you've associated these verbs together?. What have they to do with the other titles of the songs?. Was it the first title you wanted to give to this CD or did you hesitate a lot before to choose with the other members of the band?:

The title has little to do with the songs on the album. It's just my thoughts of how I describe the process of life itself, or any long time commitment, or journey such as a band. First you have desire to do something, or to achieve a goal, second you aspire to make it happen, or do the necessary steps that will help in achieve the vision, third you gather inspiration, or even inspire others, or yourself, while your in the process of attaining the goal, and finally, and eventually it all comes to an end or a conclusion. We are not a theme band. We're not trying to tell a story. We just play intense death/ grind with lyrics that tell our view on everyday situations we all face and have to deal with. This is us, ADNAUSEAM. Besides, it has cool ring to it.

7) Musicwise now, it's undeniable that you're playing a king of brutal death with some grinding drums parts. The vocie is incredibely guttural and the lyrics are so gory, everybody is wondering if it has been lived. And sometimes, I sounds like the old GOREFEST. If you've to rewrite the story again, will you change anything in these elements?. I'm sure you're working since a while on the next release; so tell us what should be the news about it?:

I don't think we're retelling any story, or recreating another bands saga. Like I said, above our lyrics describe our experience in life here, at this point in time. We have one maybe two songs you can consider to be gory. Our songs cover topic of love and relationships, of course the inevitable afterlife, repeat of past downfalls and failures, ignorance, cultural discrimation, character suppression, and murder. Our newer material not yet rleased covres topics of self depression and hate, and other inner self examination.

8) What do you think of the bands who today are coming back to the roots of death metal copying a sound or a riff and who are actuallising them to be more commercial or to sound like this band who ran the scene very well?. I mean, do you think that these bands who want to make the death metal living again are right or not?. What do you think of the black metal trend today?. Is this shit still alive?:

Well, i suppose this story has two sides. Originally this of course could be considered as a rippoff, or a takeoff, but I think too many national acts or signed bands in recent years have experimented to the point of originallity, but lost a lot of brutality. The same brutality that caused the original burst of the deaht metal scene. Many people have paid good money to get a Cd that just plain fell short of expectations or value. This has helped kill the scene. So I can see how bands have reverted back to the old style of grind and death. I don't agree with a complete clone of band but it's nice to hear a contempary band play an old familiar, favorite style. So, I would say they are in the right if they are not a complete ripoff, but wrong if they continue to imitate and never breakout into their own style and interpretation of music in a certain category. A sfor the bands they are supposively imitating, personally I would find it a compliment if I heard a take off of us, but not allbands see it that way. We don't get offended. My thought is if someone wants to hear CANNIBAL CORPSE they will buy CANNIBAL CORPSE, if someone selects a band with similar style it's probably because that band has that same sound that the first band has, but also gives another edge that appeals to the listener that the first band doesn't.

9) What's your opinion about all the other bands who are totally into grind core or crust, making songs which aren't longer than 30 seconds each, with no particular feelings either the violence and the quickness of the song?. What do you think of the actual nippon scene ?:

I like these type of bands. I think there are alot of these kind of bands out there. This is sort of the type of music that my side project THROAT LEECH does. Our songs range from 30 seconds to 2 and a half minutes. It's not noise, just that style in the vein of ASSšCK, DEFECATION, UNDINISM and the like. I don't get into the complete noize bands, but everyone is entitled to do what makes them happy in the realm of music.

10) I have always wondered what ADNAUSEAM should mean. So?. Who found this name the first?. Was it after the looking of the lat gore flix from the video club in the corner of the street?. What are you as a human, not as a musician?. Do you have a job, some feelings, a girlfriend, some reasonable acts, AhAhAh!!???!!:

ADNAUSEAM means to a sickening degree. Chris Harrison came up with the name and we've kept it ever since. We feel it best describes the music. We don't use it in perhaps the actual meaning but close as in the music is presented in a sick sense of structure and approach, not in the sense that the song drag on to the point that you might want to puke.

11) A few words now about Zac who came from CEPHALIC CARNAGE. I know this band, also from Denver, I think. They have put out a demo and I have been heard that a 7"Ep should be out soon. Is he still playing in this hemp smokers band?. What's about the other members of the band? Are they also playing in another bands?:

AAAHHH!!!. Zac Joe. Yes, he and now Steve Goldberg play in CEPHALIC CARNAGE, another great death metal band here. He played the session bass on the new CD. Chris Petersen with drew himself from the band a month before we were going to record the CD, so we need to find someone who was skilled enough to learn 60 minutes of material in a month, Zac got the call and he did exceptionally well we thought under the conditions we put him in. Zac doesn't play in DOPEHEAD, I think. I could be wrong. Chris Petersen still plays in ADNAUSEAM, he just isn't on the CD. Both Zac and Steve are full time members of CEPHALIC CARNAGE, while me, Chris P., and Chris H., are full time in this band. (editors note...at press time after the time of this interview Chris H had left the band, Chris P left dismembered Fetus to rejoin the ADNAUSEAM fold, Zac moved to guitar and well, Stev stayed on guitar)

12) I'm sure you've played some gigs in Denver and anywhere. With who did you played?. How did the crowd react when you played the new songs?. Even you don't have a message to spread, how would you describe a guy who appreciate the ADNAUSEAM soundings?:

Denver is pretty much ran independently. I fyou bring the band here, you play the show. There are a few people that occasionally brings shows here and you can beg them for an opening spot. Napalm Rec brings shows here and sometimes The Mosh Pit does too. We've played with MACABRE, VITAL REMAINS, SADISTIC INTENT, DISSOCIATE, WICKED INNOCENCE and INCANTATION. We've also donet wo festivals here but there were a lot of bands and I can't name them all. We've played in New Mexico with UNEARTH and plyed in Illinois with DEADEN, LIVIDITY and INTERNAL BLEEDING. We haven't set up many shows here so we haven't played with a lot of acts. I think people enjoy our new material. Fights always breakout when we play, it's actually sad but part of the scene here. Outside of Colorado we've always had good responses. How would I describe a guy who like ADNAUSEAM sound?. Well rounded. Attentive. A friend. A fan.

13) OK, what can you expect now with ADNAUSEAM?. What is your future composed of?. Did you receive any deals or offers from big labels?:

One more Ep release. The THROAT LEECH release. That's about it for now. We had a few offers from labels. Decided to do it ourselves. I like being involved and that's something some of these deals would take away. Along with other details that just didn't make it worth it. We're not trying to get signed like I said, it's really not important. If something reasonable came up, we would look into it but we're happy doing things our way.

14) That's all for now. Thanks a lot for your cooperation. Last words, please:
