It must have been 1978. The T.V. show Happy Days was filming the crash up derby episode (with Pinky Tuskadaro) at the Indian Dunes motorcycle park. my family and I were there riding motorcycles unaware of the shoot.
my sister Kelly came Riding in and said " Bobby get a pen and paper there filming Happy Days over there. let's go see if we can get the Fonz's autograph.
After a short ride we were there. we parked the bikes and looked around. Kelly said hey look there's Mr.C (Tom Bosley) He was sitting in a folding chair reading a news paper. I nervously walked over to him with pen and paper in hand ( mind you I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time) I politely asked Mr. C "can I have you're autograph please" he replied No! and went back to reading the paper.
my sister said forget about him nobody wants his autograph anyway, hey look it's Richie! (Ron Howard) go ask him. he was standing outside his trailer drinking a Coke. I started walking twards him pen and paper in hand. He watched as I got closer, when I was close enough to ask for an autograph, he turned around steped in to his trailer and slammed the door. he didn't say a word.
I had enough. being snubbed twice I was ready to leave. with my head held low I started to make my way back to my motorcycle, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Potsie (Anson Williams) he asked if it would be ok if he could sign an autograph for me. he explained that he realy likes to sign autographs, and didn't get a chance to sign any today. He signed my scrap of paper, and asked me if I was thirsty. he then gave me a pop from a giant ice chest (I think I picked a 7up)
Kelly and me left to go back to riding motorcycles the rest of the day.
I never did see the Fonz
