In an unparalleled display of marketing whimsy, quick decision making and maniacal need the band that you know as RENFIELD has welcomed GEORGE EARTH aboard our ship of fools where he has been tasked with playing music upon an electric guitar and on occasion eliciting melodical noise from a theremin.
We know George for the same reason you know George. Because your friends know George. George has played music with pretty much every active musician I know. As Buddha will tell you, if you have a band and your band has a guitar in it and there is someone you know that everyone else knows that plays guitar, with each passing year the chances of that fellow being in your band playing guitar reaches a near-certainty.
[This moment of analysis is not approved of by Insect Eater Labs and is not to be considered part of the CV of any bass playing mathematicians associated hereunder.]
In any case, this moment has come to pass. Our friend Kat Cahill now resides in the big leagues, New York City, where she is writing comics and is playing in a couple new bands. This is the most interesting part of Renfield, the iterative nature of the group. Kat took over Brian's slot and marked it her own and George will create a new feel with his six strings of steel. No drama, no fuss, no bullshit. We like to retain the relationships and talents of all those whom we are lucky enough to work with.
Now you get to see another brand new show. I've been working on a ton of theatrical production and it pays dividends in having new talents available to fill out shows, having new venues for production become welcome to our larger shows and finding new ways to present a worthwhile evening's entertainment for about the same cost as a movie ticket. George Earth brings with him to Renfield a map of previously unexplored regions of Los Angeles and we shall put that to use immediately.
George is also one of the hardest-working artists I know. He is closing in on a solid year of weekly production on The Talk Show, a live variety/chat program that takes place every Monday night at the Hyperion Tavern. I get cold sweats just thinking about that many layers of work repeated on a weekly basis for a year, but the show is hilarious quality throughout and worth the effort. What does this mean? George is awesome and Renfield won't book a Monday show that would break his streak, but you'll see us soon enough.
Cheers,
Marz
