So it's been a little while, and few things have happened.
For those of you who haven't noticed (or haven't cared to...), I FINALLY finished Country song #1. The rest are coming along, but it'll be a bit since my studio machine is being rebuilt - we have the technology... it will be stronger... faster... ne-ne-ne-ne-ne-ne... But seriously, once finished, the new computer will kick ass and I'll start cranking out more tunes.
The Holidays (Christmas to most of us) were fantastic. Had a great time over Christmas visiting with the kids and family. My girls got away like thieves, having picked up a portable DVD player, new bikes and a host of other merchandise. I also picked up a few cool and some very useful gifts along the way. New year's Eve was somewhat eventful as well, with Decades playing to a near-packed house almost all night long. I'd say the crowd was maybe just a little better in years past, but not by much. We still had a great crowd. I was glad we were able to mix up the set a little this time around. Made the show at least a little more interesting for us.
And in other news...
I went through two rounds of auditions and edged out the competition for the guitar/vocal spot in a Bon Jovi tribute. Yep, you read that right - so go ahead, rub your eyes and read it again. A Bon Jovi tribute. The only thing we're missing at this point is a keyboardist and some rehearsal time. The band itself is surprisingly tight, having had only 4 combination rehearsals/auditions. There is a burgeoning tribute market in the DFW metro (nationwide, really) and many great bands (and a few not-so-great ones) are well-represented, even to the extent of having as many as 5 tribute acts paying homage to the same artist. I noticed some time ago that Bon Jovi was highly underrepresented at least in this area. To date, I have found none in the Southwest, much less the whole state of Texas. In fact, a web search revealed that Dallas had flown a Bon Jovi tribute act in from CHICAGO within the last year or so for a sporting event. Given the Jersey Boys' wide pop appeal (especially among females from about 25-45), this seemed like a no-brainer yet no one has done it here - that is until now. I shall add this to other events that I'll be blogging about in the future. I suspect this will be a HUGE project, at least locally. Being the only one in Texas should allow us access to other cities in the state as well. At least the City won't have to fly a Jovi band in from out of state anymore...
Til next time...
