I thought we should share a review or two so here's one from the Sandman music paper (Yorkshire)
Richard Morris-The Sandman Magazine
Fun as a mischievous little Bart Simpson once pointed out, is fun. But all sensible people know it's exactly this kind of short-sighted thinking that allowed Roy 'Chubby' Brown to be hailed as a messiah by this nation's retard population in the later part of the last century. So at what point do harmless frolics -for example Pan's People dancing with labradors while a clucking Steve Wright strokes his inner thigh- cross over into something altogether more.... unpleasant? Well, Surf Sluts have produced a handy 14 track guide detailing exactly where the line is, the silly pop ecstasy that lies on one side and the grueling gimmicky fuck-wittery that lurks immediately on the other.
The Sluts have toured extensively with the Damned and the Fall. Like the former they have an insatiable appetite for novelty and shock tactics. What they have in common with the Fall is that, like bilious he-fossil Mark E Smith, they really shouldn't exist in this day and age. The Sluts are in fact rotund middle men fast approaching middle age who have no qualms trotting out a song titled 'Surfing On Heroin'. And if you think that's funny just imagine if Pete Doherty actually tries it. Exactly. The sick wet idiot
The pop genius is located in their cover of 'Material Girl' which sounds like the Ramones covering Madonna and is fantastic. So maybe I'm wrong – fun is always fun. Pass the board and erm , the smack
