I've been out cleaning the snow and ice off my car, and I got around to putting some christmas music on the ipod. These are my favorite Christmas songs
The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
This song has very little to do with Christmas, aside from the opening line "It was Christmas Eve, Babe". It's followed by the line "In the drunk tank"...so obviously, it's not everyones idea of Chrsitmas. But it speaks to the closing of the books, and the look ahead to a clean slate, so on the list it goes.
Dean Martin - Marshmallow world
Again, this is a song more about winter, but it's a great song, so it stays on the list.
Blue Christmas - Collective Soul
I just love the bass in this one. Better than the Elvis version.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Christmas Time
This song always makes me a bit nostalgic. This year the nostalgia is mixed with some sadness. The Bosstones are holing the 10th Hometown Throwdown. Tickets are sold out. I've already pissed off Santa with the whole flame-thrower debacle, so I'll have to hope there's an 11th Hometown Throwdown
Thurl Ravenscroft – You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch
Three words: "Stink, Stank, Stunk."
The Flaming Lips – White Christmas
It's out there, but so is the belief in a red-clothed man delivering presents.
Trans Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Eve (Sarajevo)
A great piece of music to listen to while driving through the snow. I'm betting Santa has it on his ipod.
U2 - Baby Please Come Home
Christmas doesn't begin for me until I hear this song.
For now, that is all.
