We made our cable television debut today -- and our lip-synching debut -- performing on the "profoundly surreal," long-running, community access TV program, Chic-a-go-go (aka "Chicago's Dance Show for Kids of All Ages"). It was their Halloween craptacular special, so we appeared in freightful costumes, which made it all the more bizarre. We performed our holiday-appropriate, upbeat dance number, "Dark as Sin." Eric couldn't make the taping, so John's son Dan gladly stood in on bass. And Rick's kids joined in to make it a fun family affair bordering on chaos.
The show itself is a trip! It's a dance show (like American Bandstand or Soul Train) that features dancers -- ranging from toddlers to grandparents -- dancing to rock records, plus live special guest performances. In between, there are "comedy" segments featuring Rato, a sock puppet who serves as the host, plus a female hostess. It appears on Channel 19 every Tuesday at 8:30pm and Wednesday at 3:30pm., and has been on the air for over 10 years.
The list of artists who have appeared on this show is impressive, including: Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, TV on the Radio, New Pornographers, Plain White T's, Sissor Sisters, Grizzly Bear, Sleeter-Kinney, The Stills, Blue Cheer, Perry Farrell, Los Straitjackets, Alejandro Escovedo, Head of Femur, Shonen Knife, The Von Bondies, Spoon, Gene Simmons, French Kicks, The Hives, Andrew W.K., Bad Religion, Little Steven Van Zandt, Butthole Surfers, Stereolab, Le Tigre, Amy Ray (Indigo Girls), Cheap Trick, Neko Case, OK Go and Black Flag.
