I know that some people will think it harsh that I think that you can't be a Christian and vote for Obama but just hear me out....please.

When I say a "Christian" I mean someone who is like Christ. I am not saying that you can't be a "Saved" person on your way to heaven and vote for him.

Now here are the reasons why.

1. He is for Abortion.....which is the killing of human life....50 million + babies have been murdered in America since 1973 and Obama is all for it!!!! Read Jeremiah 1:5 and see if God thinks an unborn baby is a life!

2. He is for Homosexual Marriage....you can't find a single place in all the bible where God condones or permits homosexuality or homosexual marriage. It just isn't there.....actually he calls it an "Abomination" which is one of the worst types of sin that there is (Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:26,27).  We are all sinners but to continue in the practice of sin without repentance is to find yourself in a bad place.

3. He is not unconditionally Pro-Israel.....this is actually the most frightening of all his stands in my opinion.  Genesis 12:3 clearly states that those who bless the nation of Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed. This is true throughout the history of the World.

Issues such as raising taxes is neither Christian or UnChristian. Jesus said to give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's and unto the Lord what is His. If people vote for someone who will raise taxes that is their own fault but it is not UnChristian. On the matter of war! Democrats and Republicans have both taken America or kept us at war....this is just an issue used to the advantage of whoever is or isn't in office. Their are "Just" wars in the bible also! Gun Rights are in our constitution and Gun Rights are biblical...Luke 22...but I don't think this is a real issue. Genesis talks about man having dominion over the earth but at the same time being good stewards of it. Jesus was on the side of Universal Health Care but some can say we already have Universal health care in America seeing that it is illegal to deny even illegal aliens service at county hospitals. Jesus was for giving food to the poor but he also said "If a man doesn't work he shouldn't eat".  Alot of the other issues can go one way or the other but the 3 at the top are not debatable when it comes to how God looks at it!

If Obama wins I will respect the "Office" of President and I will pray for him that God will change his heart on these issues.  I will also be glad for Americans of African descent who should then understand that America isn't as racist as they think it is whether he wins or loses!

I actually voted for Alan Keyes in the Republican Primary so I don't have a problem voting for a "black" man. The problem for me is that Obama is not "Christian" or "Christ-like" according to the Bible!

One day we will all answer to God for who we vote for!

I vote for Jesus too....but not voting for one IS voting for the other! In this case I'm voting for the lesser of two evils. Go vote for "Sarah" Palin then Janette! :-)

Right on! I'm glad that you spelled it out so well. So many are voting with no knowledge of what either candidate stands for. People don't realize that this is the only society in the history of the world where the everyday man has this much power to pick the leaders of our country. "To whom much is given, much is required". We must vote, and we must know why we are voting for whom. Those who do not vote choose to not use their voice. It's now or never, people. This is too big of an election to take lightly.

Anyway, good job on the blog!

Why I Think You Can’t Vote for Obama and Be a Christian

Wow. That's a pretty radical statement. I didn't vote for Obama, but I still find that statement...harsh. I think the way to best get a message across to people is to start with an understanding spirit, not with an attack from the get-go. People who are willing to listen and change their view tune out what you have to say if you immediately get them on the defense, which can be very counter productive.

Whatever the case, knowledge is power, and I always enjoy hearing people's points of view. Thanks for sharing. Obama is, however, our new president (elect), and the best thing to do now is to pray for him, and of course, our country. I think both Obama and McCain gave beautiful speeches to end the night, and what they both seemed to say was very, very true. It's time to come together.

It is harsh because its God's Word. Why do you think they killed Jesus....for telling them what they wanted to hear?
We do have a new President Elect.....and like I said I will pray for the man and respect the Office!
Now how do we come together.....that is the real question? If the unity is based on the fact that I think its great that we have a minority president...I can do that.....but that's pretty shallow! If unity is built on the color of skin rather than the content of character that goes against everything Martin Luther stood for! The bible says about Unity...How can two walk together unless they be agreed Amos 3:3.
I am truly glad that so many African Americans feel truly liberated! I pray that African Americans all across American and other Minorities will see that America truly has changed.
But do we sacrifice 50+ million unborn babies and the destruction of the traditional family so that someone who has the same color of skin can be ones president?
Like I said I voted for Alan Keyes in the republican primary! I don't have a race issue here I got a moral issue.

I wasn't suggessting that you had a race issue in the slightest. I don't the (pseudo) color of Obama's skin should have much to do with anything, really. America as a nation needs to come together to stand on a platform together. How does the saying go?...if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything? Of course I believe abortion is a horrible, horrible subject. Being pro-life is one of the biggest soapboxes that I ever get on. However, you can't make people stop having abortions by making it illegal. The best way to spread the beauty of the meaning of life is to educate and to live it yourself. The babies that have been aborted thus far would have been aborted one way or the other, physically or proverbally. It isn't abortion that needs to be the hot topic, it's the morals instilled within the people of America. If we breed hate and conflict and great divide, we can't focus our attention or energy into love, compassion or unity. That's where the key lies. We all knew McCain wasn't a stand-up citizen or candidate for the republic party, anyway. Making abortion illegal is only scotch-taping the huge hole that lies in the water pipe of the true problem.

I wasn't suggesting that God's word is to be used pretty and fancy. I was simply stating that the way to get people to turn to a more righteous way of thinking needs to be done with tact. You never know when you have people that need to hear the word of God, and everyone needs to be mindful of the appropriate way to deliver it- it could be their only chance to hear it. Christ delivered his message full of heart and compassion. That doesn't mean sugar-coating it or rearranging it, but it does mean being tuned into the heart and mind of the listeners. So many times I hear stories of would-be Christians with willing heart turned away from Christianity because the people delivering the message come off as judgemental and unforgiving. Forgiveness is the ultimate gift of Jesus Christ, and should others be able to feel that unconditional love from His followers, they may be much more likely to follow.

Good discussions, as always.

Kim I got a question for you? Why do we make murder illegal? Maybe we just need to use more tact and understand why people kill people and not judge them. Maybe we should remove all the laws about murder and just instill more values into people? What about pedophiles and rapists maybe we shouldn't make that illegal either....we need to remove all laws against such things and just instill more values into them? :-)

It's absurd to compare the removal of felony laws to political values and morals. I do understand the point you are trying to make, but it's RADICAL! :) I want a moral Christian America so bad I can't see straight, however, I understand that we can't just go from A to Z in a single jump. The right thing will prevail, as we all know, but we must contribute in an intelligent way. Otherwise, we're only taking one step forward and two steps back. We had Republican rule for a while, but it just didn't get us where we were trying to go. The people are, apparently, burned out. It's time for a different strategy. IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE!---okay, I'm just kidding. But seriously. My point is, sometimes even the most just heart can have adverse effects. If you don't learn from history, you're doomed to repeat it.

Plus, the definition of Christian is being Christ-like, and Christ was compassionate, forgiving, and loving. Of course you know I am not suggesting that we embrace fatal flaws as being an appropriate standard for living, but I think each and every one of us could stand to gain by representing these qualities in our lives more.

one of the problems I see is that half of Americans don't mind having laws on rape and pedophile and murder but they don't see brutally killing an innocent unborn baby even up to 9 months as a grievous act. Abortion isn't a political value or "moral" its murder.

If your argument is that we need to teach more values instead of making abortion illegal to stop it then you have to be consistant.

People want money and free universal health care even though we already have universal health care. They are also scared because the Dow Jones dropped 5000 points in 3 months and they are afraid of the economy! If this was about moral issues and people being burned out then why did 3 states pass bans ..ion where Obama won and 2 pass bans on Homosexual Marriage where Obama won?

Well, then I say:

Let's agree that we both are after the same ultimate goal, but we disagree on the strategies of getting there. I will agree to disagree with you.
