Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Welcomes Kacee Clanton to the stage in Fourth Extension of
Love, Janis
Downstairs Cabaret Theatre’s dynamic musical based on the life and music of rock and blues icon Janis Joplin. Love, Janis, which opened February 5, has been extended for a third time throughJune 7, 2009. Love, Janis was conceived, adapted, and directed by Randal Myler and inspired by Laura Joplin’s best-selling book. Love, Janis explodes on stage, going behind the music to offer a glimpse at the soul of a legend through the letters she wrote home, press interviews she gave, and the songs she made famous. Following her life from 1966 until her death in 1970, Love, Janis features performances of many of her smash hits (including “Piece of My Heart,” “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Mercedes Benz,” and “Ball and Chain”), resulting in a hauntingly intimate and compelling portrait of an artist who wanted to be remembered for her music and her refusal to compromise. Recommended for mature audiences.
Joining the production on May 1 in the “singing Janis Joplin” role is KACEE CLANTON. Since 2001, she has appeared multiple times in Love, Janis, including at San Diego Repertory Theatre and Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and has been the lead vocalist of Big Brother and the Holding Company as her schedule has permitted. She joined the legendary Joe Cocker as a background vocalist in 2004 and continued in that capacity until she joined Luis Miguel in 2008. When she is not on the road, she finds success as a Los Angeles-based commercial singer, teacher, and recording artist. Kacee studied vocal performance at the Conservatory of Music, University of the Pacific.
ANNE MONTAVON (“speaking Janis Joplin”) made her Downstairs Cabaret Theatre debut in The Johnny Mercer Jamboree last summer. Anne also appeared in DCT’s productions of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, The Water Coolers, and Boomermania. Favorite regional and NYC credits: Edges, The Rocky Horror Show (Janet), Seussical (Gertrude), Lucky Stiff (Dominique),South Pacific (Nellie u/s), Moon Over Buffalo, and Lysistrata. Anne attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, graduated with a theatre degree from the University ofNew Mexico, and was invited to participate in a summer program for musical theatre at Carnegie Mellon University.
