Hi, again. I'm Ernest Porter. In the way of entertaining those who visit this blog, I will occasionally post what can best be termed as "Space Poetry." Enjoy!!!

DROID by Ernest Porter

A 4-foot-tall
aluminum-molded
plastic robot,
a mechanized
stockroom
miracle. An R2/D2, complete
with "Gripper Hand"
and "Head-unit,"
plus on-board
IBM-compatible
computer.

ANNE DROID by Ernest Porter

A full-sized one-eyed mannequin,
complete with diodes under the skin.

Anne, featuring high-tech - (time-lapse)
VCR, seeing and hearing better,

by far. Droid's super-sensory-
surveying, better half.

FIRST LIGHT by Ernest Porter

It opened wide its shutters,
To a cloud of cosmic dust.

A one-second exposure to star-clusters,
Many, many light-years from Earth.

The most powerful astronomic scope,
Mankind has lofted to space.

It found "The Theta Carina" out there,
High up in the heavens.

A photo of "The Carina,"
No one's seen so near.

The first light from The Hubble Scope,
Was nigh absolutely clear.

CALCULATING THE VALUE OF PI by Ernest Porter

To a decimal place
where no computer
has gone. A string
of digits over
700 miles long.

Numbers dancing across
a computer's screen.
To demonstrate "Computer-Efficiencies."

A "Transcendental
Number" that absolutely
never repeats.
Filling over 110,000
computer sheets.

"ME" by Ernest Porter

A semaphore of "The Nuclear Age,"

A solid block of wood.

A Dyer-desgn one-foot tall,

...That's rarely understood.

ON THE MATHEMATICAL DISTILLATION OF BACH by Ernest Porter

(I)

There's something new in music
called "The Fractal Music box."
It filters complex patterns,
it rolls them in a knot.

Advanced mathematics is needed.
It's not just games and fun.
Condensing music to its essence,
is easier said than done.

(II)

"Fractal Abstracts" (representative
of a composition's whole), get
mathematically intra-filtrated,
then poured into a mold.

"Acoustic Frequencies" must be modulated,
and a "Fractional Value" derived.
"Semi-chaotic Patterns" measured,
on notes from low through high.

(III)

"Fractal Extracts" get distilled
from a given musical score.
Then complex "Musical Composits"
are reduced to a skeletal core.

Creation of a "Quarter-Bach-
Composition," is fi-nal-ly near.
Roll over Mr. Johann Sebastian,
"The Age of Science" is here.

30 DORADUS by Ernest Porter

Hubble has

provided an

up close

look, at

a legion

of stars

near infinity's

roof. On

30 Doradus

this star-

cluster races.

Alone, in

a void, in

a bubble of

spaces. In a

great star-

forming region

both strange

and far.

Once believed

to be ... one

massive

star!

PHOTOGRAMS by Ernest Porter

(I)

Photographic images:

produced on a direct one-to-one
light exposure process, involving
neither a camera nor
a traditional negative...

(II)

using acetate typewriter
ribbons and photographic
print impressions,
from a tract on knowledge
in relation to freedom...

(III)

composed of machine parts
finding objects in striking
negative register, against
a velvety black space...

(IV)

a whole postmodern rationale,
relating to (the "transformation")
of deconstructed machine

into an aesthetic object.

COMPUTER CREATURE by Ernest Porter

I

Evolving whole new species-creatures,
Mimicking actual bi-o-lo-gi-cal life.

It's a coded set of instructions,
Made of bits and megabytes.

It's a Dr. Ray-created program,
Tierra's complete with its own gene bank.

Selected creatures are chosen,
They're classed, then coded and ranked.

Undergoing spontaneous genetic changes,
Tierra-creatures rapidly bloom.

Bearing offspring of "ones" and "zeroes,"
And born from a computer's womb.

2.

Descendants can evolve new predators,
They can even evolve new prey.

The process is self-sustaining,
The program can continue for days.

A most unusual computer program,
Mutants evolve in a "Tierra-soup."

After four cycles of reproduction,
A random error is introduced.

Complete with its own "Grim Reaper,"
Tierra-creatures can be put to death.

A creature's code may be deleted,
If Tierra-requirements aren't met.

3.

Making use of supercomputers,
It creates other computer-beings.

Engineering its own CPU,
Tierra is clever, indeed.

It's a self-evolving computer program,
A mere 80 instructions in length.

Passing mutations to new generations,
Going where no computer has been.

DATA GLOVE by Ernest Porter

1 Creating electronic sounding pieces,

2 it's a mega new musical tool.

3 An instrument's pitch gets altered,

4 counter-pointing notes get fused.

5 A computer instrument link-up,

6 that directs an instrument's sounds.

7 Blending several music genres,

8 it's really quite profound.

9 Generating computer-oriented music,

10 hybrid pitches, high and low.

11 Looking like a hand with veins.

12 but really much, much more.

13 A computer-programmable gadget,

14 it weighs just over a pound.

15 Controlling entire production-studios,

16 producing high-tech computer sounds.

17 It's really somethin' special.

18 Space-Age Music you're sure to love.

19 E-ve-ry joint in a wearer's hand,

20 is tracked by "Data Glove."

21 An amazing high-tech invention,

22 that's really rather grand.

23 A programmable music instrument,

24 shaped like a human hand.

25 Computer music is fashionable,

26 "Data Glove" has broken the mold.

27 A protruding knot of wires,

28 Data Glove's radically-bold.

29 A twenty-thousand dollar gizmo,

30 metal in the form of a hand.

31 The most awesome music instrument,

32 ever invented by man.

THE TIRE WITH THE BUILT-IN BRAIN by Ernest Porter

Goodyear has gone and done it,
There's a tire with a "built-in-brain."
It tells tire-temperature and -pressure,

And works just swell in rain.
It's a dandy new technology,
For fleet operators, it's simply a must:

An electronic chip, inside a tire,
it's a tire designed for trucks.
There's a hand-held electronic unit,

Simply pass it near the tire.
It's a "Talking-Tire" speaking computerese,
That's really rather wild.

* * *

THE GOTCHA HAND by Ernest Porter

A disembodied hand

from a pocket or door

It's loads of fun

and much, much more.

Flesh-colored hands,

with bloodied scars

Designed as a prank,

they dangle from cars.

With bumper-stickers attached,

they aim to amuse

"Ex-wife In Trunk"

and "Mother-In-Law, Too."

A pink, rubbery hand,

that's bony and stout

"The Gotcha Hand Will Gitcha,

If You Don't Watch Out."

* * *

THE REPO MAN by Ernest Porter

I

Rolls-Royces to Lamborghinis,
you'd better keep a sharp eye out.

II

"The Repo Man" is coming
He's creeping all about.

Slim Jims and a lock pick,
they are his favorite tools.

Whether a camper or a cigarette boat,
he's really rather smooth.

III

So hide your Hyundais and Hondas,
he'll steal 'em from under your nose.

That Repo Man is coming soon,
he's known for being bold.

Long-term, low-payment loans,
can give a guy the blues.

IV

That dreaded Repo Man is near,
so please pass on the news.

OFFICER GREGORY, I PRESUME by Ernest Porter

A "Trojan Dummy" in a uniform. A "Gregory Mannequin Cop."

For keeping speeders off highways, "Officer Gregory" is really the tops.

Positioned upright in a cruiser, with a police-club on its lap,

A mannequin dressed as a policeman, sporting a jacket, a badge and a cap.

Parked in a patrol car on the freeway, to keep tabs on highway dregs.

An eleven pound wooden dummy, referred

to as

"Officer Greg."

* * *

THE LTI 20/20 LASER SPEED GUN

A stationary device every cop
needs. It's more accurate
than radar, and it

measures car speeds. A
"Laser-Guided Speed Detector,"
that can't be traced.

Using invisible beams of
light; no radio waves.
Traffic cops are delighted,

they're really havin' fun.
It's held like a Cam-recorder,
but it's aimed like a gun.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY by Ernest Porter

A nineties "Ozzie and Harriet" with an eeriful twist.

Morticia and Gomez are a ghoulish hit.

Gomez courts Morticia, like they'd just now met,

in "A Graveyard Love Scene"you won't forget.

Flaunting "Old World Elegance," she's a vampirish ghoul.

Morticia, the matriarch, is morgue-room cool.

With imperious style, that Morticia's got class.

The whole Addams household is truly a blast.

Showcasing Wednesday and Pugsley, ghoulishly sweet,

a strange nuclear family, that's charming, indeed.

A cartoon mode that's peculiarly dark.

A style-piece by Somerfeld that's really smart.

Drawing-room comedy that's raucous and hot.

That Addams Family gives it all they've got.

It's fun for the whole family, for girls and boys.

A kooky kind of madness you're sure to enjoy.

* * *

THING'S BOX by Ernest Porter

Movie memorabilia,

eccentrically odd.

The witch's hat

from "The Wizard Of Oz."

A sitcom fixture,

gone on sale.

Home to "Thing,"

wiry and pale.

Auctioned at Christies,

twas home to Thing.

That infamous hand,

bony and lean.

Movie-keepsakes,

strangely urbane.

Boasting Orson Welle's script,

from "Citizen Kane."

* * *

THE ADDAMS FAMILY II

a.

Granny's "Magic Broomstick" has a mind all its own.

It's a scream a minute at the Addams home.

b.

An electric-chair in the playroom, just for a starter.

And a peerlessly demented, "Uncle Festor-Imposter."

c.

A movie retake from a macabre cartoon.

That looming Addams Mansion, sets the mood.

d.

Gomez, the patriarch, is addicted to French.

And Morticia, his mistress, is dressed like a witch.

e.

It's a Somerfeld-production wreaking with laughter.

A bald, raccoon-eyed Festor, mad as a hatter.

f.

Co-starring grave little Wednesday and brother-Pugsley.

There's a cemetery in the back yard. It's a ghoulish glory.

g.

There's icky, slimy creatures, all sorts of excitement.

And a River Styx, right in the basement.

h.

It's a family portrait that'll make you jump.

They're creepy and spooky, but they're loads of fun.

CURSE OF THE GREAT PHAROAH by Ernest Porter

The magic of "Tutankhamen's Tomb,"

has given way to an aweful curse.

And tourists who violate the tomb-site,

are making matters much worse.

A too-popular tourist attraction,

in "The Valley Of The Kings."

The tomb of King Tut is in shambles,

fallen prey to the tourist scene.

He who would insult the Great Pharoah,

take heed from these words of advice:

"Those who'd defile King Tut's resting place,

are cursed, not once, but twice."

* * *

OLD KING TUT by Ernest Porter

A grand old cockatoo

has bit the

dust. A San

Diego Zoo

favorite named:

"Old King

Tut."

* * *

FREDDY'S DEAD by Ernest Porter

Designed to frighten audiences,

both girls and boys.

Malevolent dream sequences,

masterfully wove.

From fire to holy water,

it's all been tried.

But that fiendish Krueger

refuses to die.

"The Villain Of Elm Street,"

is to die on cue.

In one final installment,

he's to get his due.

A Hallowee-favorite

we just love to hate.

A peculiarly ghoulish charm,

that's truly first-rate.

* * *

DEVIL'S TONGUE by Ernest Porter

It smells
real bad. It even
eats flies. About 4-feet tall, with fleshy spikes.

"The
Blooming Begonia"
is
worth
the watch.
One side's spotted, green with splotches. A "Voodoo Plant"
with musty powers. This one ain't
no dainty flower. It smells so bad, some folks faint.
A fragrant lilly, this one ain't.
An
exotic
plant of blood-red hue.
It not only stinks, it's ugly,
too.

THE 22ND ANNUAL MUTUAL UFO NETWORK

I

Chronicling tales of abductions by aliens,

of mutilations and tales of gore.

There's an assortment of T-shirts and stickers,

plus tapes and space-gear galore.

To unravel the mysteries of UFO's,

over eight-hundred "sighters" converge.

And to wet the

2.

whistles of participants,

there's souvenirs and relatable perks.

Having been whisked away by aliens,

participants

gather to speak.

Of a mysterious substance called "Angel Hair,"

left by alien beings.
