Dont abandon the top water lures just yet. I know the Sun is hot and it tends to drive fish way down deep., but you never know when the bass will strike the top water after a schooling group of minnows. Have it ready to throw and you just might pick him off. Also during the heat look for docks and bridges that sort of thing throw a spook or a foot loose crank bait something that makes top water action. You just might be able to draw a strike.
