TERMINUS,
A STARTLING NEW CREATION FROM THE DYNAMIC PRESENCE PROJECT, MAKES INDIANAPOLIS
DEBUT
Follow a
mysterious young woman, known only as “She,” on the best and the
worst day of her life. Travelling from her simple suburban solitude
into the wildest depths of the city, she makes shocking and disturbing
discoveries along the way. Pursued by an unknown “He,” she
begins to realize the Truth she has both sought, and feared. An
original movement theatre experience of dazzling complexity and depth,
TERMINUS is a play without words. Join the Dynamic Presence
Project Ensemble this May 15th-16th and 21st-23rd
at the newly renovated iNDYfRINGE Building, 719 E. St. Clair, just off
Massachusetts Avenue.
The
play is directed by Adam Noble, the newly appointed Assistant
Professor of Movement at Indiana University’s M.F.A. Acting Program.
Mr. Noble also serves as the Artistic Director of the Dynamic Presence
Project, which he co-founded in 2004 with his wife and artistic partner,
Melissa Noble. Mrs. Noble serves as Lead Choreographer for TERMINUS,
wielding her eclectic dance background – ranging from ballet to aerial
dance – with an understated grace. Since her recent arrival
in Indiana, she has worked with Windfall Dance Company, the Indiana
University Department of Theatre & Drama, and the Jacobs School
of Music.
This
production of TERMINUS arose from the embryonic question, “how
much narrative can be expressed without words?” Mr. Noble explains
that, “the piece serves as a magnifying glass for the voyeuristic
impulses we all seem to have. There are silent moments that we
witness, transpiring between strangers and, as if by magic, a story
unfolds in our imagination. We intuit what we see. We deduce
what’s going on. We fill in the blanks.” Indeed, the
play is made up of a myriad of these silent encounters – some chance,
and some with a laser-like intensity of purpose – but each one is
left for the audience to parse. “We’re hoping that every audience
member, by nature of their unique perspective, will experience a different
show.”
TERMINUS
arrives in Indianapolis as the culmination of years of smaller vignette
performances: pieces of the entire work have been produced in
Seattle, Washington (On The Boards, ARC Dance Company), and in Bloomington,
Indiana (John Waldron Arts Center/Windfall Dance).
TERMINUS
opens Friday, May 15th at 8pm, with additional performances
May 16th, and 21st-23rd. All
