Category: Travel and Places
after 12 days on the road with over 3,400 miles traveled, i now have the task of trying to sum up everything that happened during our album release and tour. here it goes....

Wednesday April 9, 2008

On this night we celebrated the pre-release of our new record "The Wick and The Fire." We played at Exit-In, one of the best venues in town with one of my other bands, Philos and Sleeptalker. It was a great night filled with good music, friends and a nice way to kick off our tour.

Driving day to Richmond, VA... gas prices suck

Friday April 11, 2008

Hung out at my parents house that afternoon, grilled out and then made our way up to Washington DC. We played at an awesome rock n roll lounge (don't you dare call it a bar!) called Asylum. The stage was on the second story and there was windows all around so everyone passing by on the busy streets could look in and listen. We played for a little over an hour to a very nice crowd of people and hung out until 130 am or so. From there, we drove to Harrisonburg, VA where we stayed with some of our friends from Gifts from Enola.

Saturday April 12, 2008

I'll be honest, there isn't much to do in Harrisonburg, VA, but when you have good friends there and crazy house shows that doesn't really matter. We hung out during the day, watched The Deadliest Catch and then went over to this huge house named "The Bag" where the show was that night. We were packed in the basement of this house with well over 100 people and played our set to a very enthusiastic group of crazy party kids. After the show, things got nuts to say the least and around 230 am we decided to call it a night and head back to Richmond so we could sleep.

Sunday April 13, 2008

Slept in, ate some awesome Italian food cooked by my parents and then drove down to Greenville, NC. We played at a space called The Spazzatorium Galleria and it was great. Jeff, the guy who runs it, is one of the most genuine music lovers i've had the pleasure of meeting and the reason why we came back again after playing there last May. The crowd was very attentive and appreciative of all the bands that night and it's really refreshing to see that, especially since Nashville is filled with so many elitists and critics.

Monday April 14, 2008

We were originally supposed to play in Charleston, SC, but that fell through, so we made our way down to Atlanta where Taylor's parents live. On our way, we figured we'd call some venues and see about getting on a show. Luckily, we caught a break and headed to Lenny's in downtown Atlanta to play that evening. We played first to a crowd of all hip-hop fans who came out for the second band of the night, but they were very open-minded and appreciative of our loud instrumental rock and it was awesome. We stayed to watch the hip-hop group and were very impressed as they used electric guitar, bass and horns in their live show. You can check them out at myspace.com/gpwfly - As we were packing up, we were "treated" (note sarcasm) to a terrible, but hilarious metal band whose name provided many laughs for us throughout the tour. We'll spare them the embarrassment, but the name was priceless, so if you really want to know, just ask.

Tuesday April 15, 2008

Hung out in Atlanta for the day and then made the short trip to Athens, GA for our show. We played at this cool venue called the Caledonia Lounge and got to hear this awesome new local band there called Bambara (myspace.com/bambaraband). We also got to hang out with our friend Bryant from the band Cinemechanica and scope out downtown Athens, which is pretty awesome.

Wednesday April 16, 2008

Nothing ever panned out in Alabama for us, so we used this day to drive to Texas for our shows there. Over 800 miles later, we arrived and were exhausted from driving all day.

Thursday April 17, 2008

Hung out in Ft Worth, Texas where Jon lives and used the day to rest. We planned on driving to Abilene to play at a coffee-shop that night, but the weather got really bad and we learned that Dillinger Escape Plan just happened to be playing an impromptu show in Abilene that night. we stayed in Ft Worth, watched some cool thunderstorms outside and it was great.

Friday April 18, 2008

Spent the morning in Ft Worth, then headed to Abilene to meet up with our friend Justin who plays in an awesome band called Homer Hiccolm and the Rocketboys (myspace.com/rocketboys) We played some ping-pong, grilled some hamburgers and then setup for our most interesting show location of the tour. Justin lives in a house in Abilene with 6 other dudes and in one part of the house there's an old indoor pool. We decided to arrange stadium seating and set up so that we could play in the deep end of the empty pool and people could sit in the shallow end and around the pool. This went over great with people who came to the show and definitely was a cool setting to play in.

Saturday April 19, 2008

Drove back to Ft Worth and spent the day sleeping because after we played in Abilene, a dance party broke out until 5 am or so. Not much sleep was gotten by anyone. Jon's parents cooked us an amazing steak dinner that night and then we went over to The Chat Room Pub for our last show of the tour. Everything about this evening was amazing and it was by far the best show of our tour. People there just love music, hanging out and that equals a great night. We played to an over-packed crowd, sold a ton of CD's and met many awesome people.

Sunday April 20, 2008

Woke up and made the 10 hour drive back to Nashville. Arrived in Nashville around 9pm and concluded what was definitely the most successful tour we've had to date. Thank you to everyone who came out to the shows, bought CD's, talked with us and offered encouragement, gave us a place to sleep, fed us and much more. You guys and girls are the reason we are able to make records and come play for you, so we are forever indebted to you.

That's it for now... check out the new songs on our player, head to Speakerheart.com and download our new record and we'll catch you soon. Much love!
