The Official BLIND MELON Blog

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 5:33 AM
Hey there,

We've read a bunch of the posts on here and everybody appreciates the support. It has been very helpful to us over the last few days. It means more than you know.....

It's time for us to move forward now. Any more time spent with anger and insult is wasted time. One of the things that the last two years has taught us all over again is that we love playing music together. The eleven previous years were spent healing and dealing, and we came back with an even stronger bond. Our dream, what this is really all about for us, is to have the chance to make something great. A great album. A great show. As we said before, we will endure just about anything for that.

So we're going to try to press forward immediately, and we want to find a singer to go with us. In our minds, Travis set the bar pretty high. And Shannon?....well that goes without saying. We're looking for somebody from outer space that has their feet on the ground. We're looking for somebody who has a voice that inspires new songs and sheds new light on our old songs. We're not looking for clones, drones, jokers, clowns, or drama queens. If you are interested or know somebody else who is, send an mp3 or video/audio link to blindmelonsinger@gmail.com. We'll check it out and get back to you if we think you might be a good fit for the band. Thank ya!

Nice to see you haven't given up. You all have too much potential for that. Hope you find the man (or woman) you're looking for & perhaps... I dunno... return to the IA/IL Quad City area for a show or 2... or 3? ;)

Damnit BRAD!!! You need to get your ass up there and sing. Abandon Jalopy was beautiful. Before and after Travis came along, I always said you should sing. I understand it's harder to sing and play at the same time...but you can do it man....so do it. YEAH!!! Either way, good luck with everything and I cant wait to see what happens next.

When I heard that you guys had a new singer, all I could think was "Why not Travis?"

What a let down....Bring something we cared about back from the dead. Make this amazing disc that shines a golden light of hope on a second disc and what magic will be made......Then boom! Just like before.......gone.

Now it's "We're not getting along"

Fucken do what you gotta do and yea "Change, change, change" BUT shit man y'all got lightening to strike TWICE!! That's 2 magic singers, look around or listen to the radio cause singers are like ice cubes in Africa. You think you'll find a 3rd!?! Shit buy me a lotto ticket bro.

Y'all need Travis and he needs ya'll. If not for each other or your band, for ALL of us who cared 13 years ago and cared again when you said "we're back!".

For Shannon, the fans & your legacy!

Like mom would say "Work it out!"

I wish you the best in whatever you do.

I Vote for Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction) NO REALLY I"M SERIOUS!!! I put alot of thought into it over the past 11 years! And thats what i came up with!!! He has The stage presence of A GOD And similar vocal pitch as Shannon. It would Be AMAZING even if only for a few shows Or One show.
I would Fly any where around the world to see that show!!! (that is except the usa cuz i'm not allowed there lol)

You do have a point. Perry does have a similar sounding voice. I have thought this before too. Good luck with that one thought. I'm gonna try out for Blind Melon. Never can tell. I have a similar style and have been told I sound a little like perry and Shannon.

There's so much music to be made and I have this feeling that you'll find someone who can exceed all our expectations just like you did with Travis. If you guys can deal with the loss of Shannon and still come together a decade later and make me remember why I loved you all in the first place, then I know you guys can do it again. Just try to make it back to George's in Fayetteville on Halloween when you get all this resolved. I don't feel like my bee costume got the proper appreciation since there wasn't a show! Good luck boys! The search is on...

I am so proud of ya'll for picking it up so quick and knowing what you want. As surprised as you were that we were all here all along these last 13 years should show you that your fans LOVE you and will support you always! Thank you for coming back on the scene together. I have enjoyed every UT, TTT, and EV show I've seen...just being in a room with 1 or 2 of you and watching the magic that flows from your respective instruments has been a gift. I can wait til you find someone else. Do it knowing we will ALWAYS buy tickets, pass the good word, buy your music.
I have always been and will FOREVER REMAIN devoted to Blind Melon!

Glen, Rogers, Chris, and Brad, Your music has helped get me through the absolute worst of times in my life. After listening to your songs for over ten years, it was a dream come true to get to see you perform them in Hartford and another to meet a couple of you in Stamford last July. I hope the best for you guys--Travis was a great vocalist and I know you'll find someone outstanding to fill his shoes. Good luck!

Of course, we are all sad. Good luck with everything. I will keep my eyes peeled for a singer, who can pass muster. By the way, what's Travis doing now? Is he waiting tables or working at the local car wash? Tell me, what better job is there, than being the lead singer of a legendary band? Maybe Travis can answer that for me.

I wish you guys the best.

I was reading the last blogs and I felt so sad knowing what was happening! I have no cancelled show in Argentina, but I was still sad because I think you guys deserve everything for being so nice always, for doing so many great things. And I'm pretty proud when I see you are kind of family, always together against anything. That is a wonderfull thing for a band. You are strong and you all have angel.

I know you will find someone nice to you and someday not to far away you will be here, in Argentina -hehe. There is no one person I know who dislike you, so... Come on, be together and win =)

Forgive my English!

I love you =)

Good luck on the search guys, I'm just glad you guys aren't giving up on the whole thing. Hopefully the next person will be as much of a fan as Travis is. I like the idea of a female and it would be awesome if you guys could bring in Jena, but she's probably busy with her own stuff. I just think that it would be awesome if she could step in and do it if you went that route. Good luck and I hope to see you guys on the road again, you guys are amazing live.

When Shannon died I thought: "there's no way these guys are ever going to be able to do anything as good as this again..." And you know what? You guys proved me wrong.
And why?
cuz' you just love playing music too much...and we all feel it, no matter who's fronting the band.

So as painful and crappy as things may feel now, I'm confident that you guys will pick yourselves up, dust yourselves off, and like the Phoenix, rise from the ashes and return to being one of the best bands on the planet, and my personal favorite!

I wonder if Pat Sweeney would be interested? His music is usually bluesier, but man he knows how to sing. I don't know if you could convince him to leave the guitar at home, but the thought of him singing with Blind Melon gives me a shiver. He's known in the Akron, OH area, not sure if you would have heard of him, but he is worth looking up. You would not get any of this prima donna BS from him, or have any fear of him self destructing, like you may have gotten from a recent band member.

I have someone to nominate for the position of new Blind Melon singer. This fine gentleman has proven song writing abilities, knows most every BM song already, and has an even better voice than he knows. I've heard some of his stuff, and I must say, it is excellent. His bandmates and everyone he has worked with would certainly agree. His name is Brad Smith, and he is known as the bass player from a band called Blind Melon. I think he would be a perfect fit.
