I only recently got to know Colby well due to working with him for our CYANIGHT tour this past summer.  We spoke many times over the phone while making arrangements to hit New Orleans with the Pain Tribe at the Hi Ho Lounge.  Our first New Orleans performance in fact is thanks entirely to his efforts and the support of his crew from the PAIN TRIBE and his friends in New Orleans.  We are still unsure of the exact nature and circumstance that lead to his reported death but whatever the circumstances are I can say definitively it was too soon. Colby while well experienced was still quite young and he had a lot of life to live and a lot of love to give to his friends and strangers a like.

When we came to NOLA we first met he and Lisa at Aunt Tiki’s and we all instantly became good friends and through a course of 12 hours hanging out we really bonded in ways many of my local friends and I don't get to connect… It was as if we had always known each other. Perhaps we actually did, from when Colby lived in Austin previously and he I just didn’t remember between all the lost years.  We both know all the same people and have walked within many of the same underground circles so it's no surprise we connected so well as friends.  Our instant friendship was perhaps just his way with everyone but to me it stood out as significant and personal. We didn’t hang out but only for a couple days but that was after weeks of phone conversations leading up to our tour.  I can't thank him enough for supporting Hipnautica in New Orleans and now I will never be able to repay him directly.

He was one of those comfortable souls… supportive, experienced, knowledgeable and confident but open minded. He was extremely passionate, full of life, and a generous supportive friend so much so that I can’t imagine how this event could have come to an end like this. I know I did not know him well but this story is beyond disturbing. I’m still in disbelief, I’m still half expecting him to call me today and tell me he's fine and he's coming to Austin to hangout.  Now, aggravated and depressed for he and the friends he left behind... I will never be able to repay him for the support he showed me and our collective so I will be there for the his family, Lisa, Pain Tribe and his friends as much as I can.

My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all his friends and family within and outside of the Pain Tribe. There are a thousand ways to cross a river some of them take longer than others but there is always a way to get across.

To Colby my comrade in arms, my brother you already know that words are not enough.
