I had this job again teaching bass. Last year I had to talk my way into it, since I'm not a "bassist" nor am I known as one who plays bass. By the standard musician's definition I'm not even a "musician."
Classroom teaching is a bluff. If you've planned a lesson and it isn't getting any traction, you'd better start talking about something that will engage them. Therefore, what is the point of planning?
The thing about playing bass is this: smile, move and touch the strings like they're a rhythm instrument. The notes don't matter.
Well, that's where I'm at anyway. I'm at the 35th percentile of bass players. I'm regarding the 34 percent I'm qualified to teach and telling them that the exercises, learning "Money" and "Pusherman" and all that, are getting them to my current themes of bass playing. WTF do I know.
