Current mood:  hopeful
Category: Life

In my song Borrowed Time, the opening lyric sets the stage for our discussion

Wake with the dawn a brand new day.....
One more chance to change the world...
Before the daylight fades away.......

Most days I wake up and I am so preoccupied with commitments that I loose sight of the fresh slate I have to do something significant. Like the first day of school or a New Year's Day, some days automatically instill more hope.More often, I begin my day by thinking how good it will feel to come home and have dinner with my family. I have recently felt impressed to approach each day with the reverence it deserves. I decided to start each day by meditating on the phrase....."This could be the day........" and finishing it with something meaningful and manageable. Like ending the phrase with:

that I buy a sandwich for one hungry street person
that I help bring peace to fighting coworkers
comfort a friend diagnosed with cancer
that I take the time to change to one energy efficient light bulb

This sentiment is captured in the chorus of Tim McGraw's song "Live like You Were Dying"

An' he said: "I went sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
"And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying."
"Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

How will you finish the phrase ..."This could be the day…….."
If you get a moment, stop by and share.

Makeda, I really like what Malamik said here. I think this is a good way to end this phrase,"for the betterment of all mankind". Kudos to both of you ladies.

Makeda,
This is so true!!! The words is your song, and the words in Tim McGraw's song, also, are so meaningful!!! Everyday, there are people who get up "hating their life, hating the world" and wasting precious moments that could be used to improve themselves which usually improves the life of someone else! I guess it is the "nurse" in me, but it seems I live everyday to make sure that all of my family (4 grown children) have all that they and my grandchildren need. I don't ask for anything in return; that isn't why I do it! But, with my children, it is never enough, and they "drain me". In turn, that turns my "good feelings" of helping them into thoughts of perhaps I should leave them to stand on their own. You are right; there are other ways for me to "improve life and the world"!!! Thanks for the suggestions!
Love & peace,
Carolyn

Just Beautiful!

This flows with what so many people of God are saying/admonishing... I have seen so many 'suddenly' taken... so sad for those of us left behind... so sobering for us, should we be called to go... absolutely beautiful, anointed song... xo

Hi Makeda!
This applies to my day job as a swim and fitness instructor.
I know that if I can make at least one contribution to saving a child or a member of the child's family from drowning, and if I can make at least one life<myspace>style</myspace> difference for just one adult, enhancing and prolonging a quality of life, then mine is a life well lived.
I write this on the anniversary of my daughter's father's death six years back - from drowning.
Love & Peace,
Susan

Wow Makeda
As always your blogs are so thought provoking. Kudos to all the comments that proceed this one. You're all right. Life is too short to spent time thinking negative, acting negatively or being around negative people. I would say....Today is the day I will breathe in deeply and savour the goodness of life.

Love and Peace.

Here's the Lyrics to a Song by Kenny Chesney titled "Don't Blink"

I turned on the evening news
Saw an old man being interviewed
Turning a hundred and two today
Asked him what's the secret to life
He looked up from his old pipe
Laughed and said "All I can say is ."

Don't Blink
just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't Blink

I was glued to my tv when it looked like he looked at me and said
"Best start putting first things first."
Cause when your hour glass runs out of sand
You can't flip it over and start again
Take every breath God gives you for what it's worth

Don't Blink
just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink

So I've been tryin' ta slow it down
I've been tryin' to take it in
In this here today, gone tomorrow world we're livin' in

Trust me friend a hundred years go faster than you think
So Don't Blink

No, don't blink don't blink
life goes faster than you think!
so don't Blink
