Current mood:  enthralled
It's a hefty ticket price to pay to hear Rollins speak (with others you could probably take or leave), but it you havent seen it before it's worth it. I think tix are still on sale through Saturday. He's good at keeping your ears perked and your brain rolling. His show on IFC is great- the season premiere tonight with guest Marilyn Manson ought to be fucking interesting.

The night's opener, Janeen Garofolo's only line that caught my lagging attention was,
"I know you Rolllins fans are scathing me.....Patience!"

Next up comedian Mark Maron was pretty funny. Didn't know him, had no expectations, but he played on a bit of New York reality so I dug it.

Once Henry hits "Go!" he never stops, much like the Ramones, and spouted for a good hour and ½. He spoke a lot of his travels, which definetely seems to be an advantage for retired musicians....being able to stop, see the world and share interesting stories with us, lucky them. What he learned and needed us to know is this: As much as America is portrayed to be hated by the rest of the world, the countries Henry visited (including Iran of all places) do like America and definetely have the capability of separating the U.S. government from We the People. This cant excuse the millions of people who voted for our current President (with the exception of the fixed-election theory), but Henry said people were eager to talk about all the cool things they love about America and not blame him for America's politics. Its not to say there aren't many who do not forgive us as a whole for whats happening, but it was encouraging to hear that people still want to visit here and are giving us citizens the benefit of doubt.

I am more than stoked to have had a long conversation with him backstage afterwards, never having met him. There was no post-show guest list so backstage was pretty 'lax'. With many well-known old school punx I respect immensely, it seems engrained in them to be surrounded by their peers. Unless a club has very strict security, they will take the time to talk with the local punx and show their respect. Of course it's hard to do when tens of people want one minute, but all and all I know that some have never forgotten their beginnings. That being said, Henry seemed to really enjoy walking around talking with strangers, no matter the subject. Talk about a ball of energy, its hard to keep up with him without you daily dose of caffeine, he's like a machine!

Some people say singers that move on to do spoken word at egotistical or cocky. As far as Im concerned, theyre still doing the same thing they always were: mouthing off what theyre fed up with, and its obviously in their DNA to feel compelled to do so.
Henry's one of those people that takes the time to answer email. He truly believes this country will change for the better in time. That's impossible for most of us to envision but I'll take his hope any day. And it's cool to know he's still got a soft spot for our City. You rock Henry.

Right on. I have seen Rollins on his spoken word performance several times over the last decade. He always has a good point, and a good humor. Rollins is the man. I agree with your view on band/spoken. Cool.
