Totally exceeded my expectations. Excellent story and well told, Amazing visuals too. Gritty and no holds barred. What else can I say? Must watch, just be prepared to be glued to your seat for 3 hours, don't worry you won't get bored at any time just make sure you've stocked up on popcorn and drinks.

a thought provoking period piece i really liked it. faithful and yet different from the best ever graphic novel which i believe it needed to be. Was dissapointed they left out hollis mason(original nite owls) death but i believe the new ending worked better than space squid, very violent, soundtrack was perfect and i think it has the best title sequence evert.
all over a great film

Good movie, however some scenes we're a little overindulgent. Parents who brought their little kids to the Perth screening may have regretted it due to the graphic scenes. Those not interested in the story and type of film may get a little lost in the script and find it a little too long, like the person I brought.

first scene summing up the history of the watchmen and such is AMAZING. It was very intertaining and spectacular and has some awsome scenes, but for some reason i found it empty, hollow, dehumanising and almost depressing. .. ..It had some VERY disturbing scenes and themes that kind of push the limits of MA rating and even though i saw it for free i wouldnt have paid to see if id known what it would be like, but still many people enjoyed it so overall, being so entertaining i would have to say it was a good movie.

It was horrible, sound effect wise. The dialogs were loud enough, when came the gun shooting, glass breaking, etc, it was too loud! (Just like Sweeney Todd on DVD). I had to cover my ear.........Visual effects were fantastic, but the sex scene, come on!, does it have to be that long? It destroys the whole effect of the story. Overall the movie is pretty dull.

Unbalanced 'audio mixer'........Sound effects were horrible! The voices for dialogs were loud enough; the glass breaking, gun shooting, plane engine roaring, etc were too loud! Geesh I even had to cover one of my ears. This reminds me of watching 'Sweeney Todd' on DVD. The voices were really soft, I had to turn up the volume. Then came the sudden too loud sound effects, I had to turn down the volume. POOR SOUND/VOICE/AUDIO RECORDING!........And the sex scene, does that really have to be that long? It destroys the whole story. I agree with Stefan the movie is kinda 'empty'.........Visual effect was FANTASTIC!

Fantastic credits sequence, probably one of the best I've seen, along with the soundtrack, again, probably the best of any movie I've seen.....As for the rest of it, brilliantly made, very true to the graphic novel, despite the altered ending.....I can't wait to see it again, and again... and again!....

Lovely review. Loved how you went into detail.......If you have read the comics, you could be dissapointed, otherwise a decent film...Strange disbalance between reality and sci fi.

I am a self-confessed comic book nerd and seeing the Watchmen breathe and move was worth the price of admission alone! It was certainly a mighty task to be undertaken and I think they did pretty well with the source material. Of course the movie failed to truly capture the wider scope and deep deep foreboding sense of doom, but there's only so much you can do in 2 and a half hours with such a dense and layered story. ........Definitely prepare your mind for some metaphysical discourse on human existence, war, morality, God etc... which i think unfortunately will be lost on many! The general public is sadly not ready or simply unwilling to watch this kind of movie. They simply want blood, gore and sex. As is gratuitously provided by mr 300 spartans. ........Overall though, the movie is perhaps too dark to have the breakout success of the dark knight (and that's saying something!) and it is definitely flawed too (a bit rushed in places, mostly dry performances, where's my giant apocalyptic squid? lolzzz). But instead of thinking of what it could've been, i did thorouhgly enjoy it for what it was. Just don't take your grandmother to see it. ........But enough of me being pretentious. Do yourself a favour and watch it alone actually.
It's a thinker this one!

i'm just copy pasta'ing my commetn from last week;........hey i thought the watchmen was great as a movie, although when compared to the graphic novel, it sadly didn't break even in quality.........the difference in ending was also very clever although not as imaginative, to be honest the original ending wouldn't have transitioned well into a movie so i must give kudos to the script writes. i think the fans will be happy, if not tolerant of the change.........there were a few problems, it was VERY overindulgent in a few scenes that just didn't seem necessary, i don't think need to name more than the comedian beating up the original silk spectre scene. snyder also really overuses his slowmotion impact effect in general, even though it's somewhat his niche its quite redundant.........oh yeah, there was a lot more violence then i expected,it was borderline unnecessary. was that for the real fans or to keep the casual movie goer entertained i wonder.....

I think it was a great piece of cinema, and faithful enough to the graphic novel.....Unfortunately, it's the kind of movie that only intelligent people will understand and appreciate.....It's not your lame-ass kiddie-oriented X-men movie, morons. Sorry you actually went to see something worth watching.....The slow-motion worked. Nobody wants to have seizures like they did in movies like Cloverfield and Spiderman 2.....The bare, brutal violence worked brilliantly. And to be honest, anyone who takes their 7 year old kids to see an MA movie has more issues than the people in the movie who perpetrate the violence in the first place.....As for faithfulness to the Graphic Novel, the movie did not disappoint. The dialogue, sometimes word for word, was wonderfully woven together with just the right amount of visual subtleties and brilliant acting. The casting was almost flawless. The changed ending worked perfectly and although ol' squiddy is a personal favourite of mine, it would not have held up well in cinematic translation and would have left a lot to desire, especially since the rest of the movie is so painstakingly concerned with being faithful to reality and a great period piece.....Of course it was flawed, but what movie isn't? Some scenes were just a little too long, and not explaining the Keene act fully was a bit of a problem when people unfamiliar with the novel were involved, but apart from that I loved it to pieces.....In short, a brilliant movie, both on its own and when compared with the graphic novel. Intelligent viewers will enjoy this movie immensely and walk away pondering its powerful message and commentary on the nature of morals.....Unfortunately, the decidedly less intelligent viewers - who now make up more than 60% of movie goers these days - will walk away wishing there was less philosophical pondering and more mindless fight scenes, asking each other "dude, why did that blue guy have his dick out all the time?" and "why did only one of them have superpowers? That squishy face guy should have beaten the crap out of OzymanGAYus!"........4.5/5........Go and see it.

was an amazing movie. although i think it did run for a bit long. but having said that it would be impossible to have such an ellogant story in a smaller time peroid while staying faithfull to the comic book.

Not having read the graphic novel myself i thought it was a great movie, truly excellent. I think the special effects were very well done considering the detail of some of the elements. A good movie to simply watch, however it was also explored various themes really well. It was confusing at points due to the multilayered plot, but in the end a lot of it is explained, and you finally understand what some of the earlier references and ideas were really about. ......It did seem to go a little into excess with the violence at times, but i guess that was simply fulfilling the action side of things. Also the sex scene didn't seem to serve too much of a point, but im sure Snyder put it in for a reason. Oh and to all the people who complain because they show Dr. Manhattan's penis - grow up. How about you take a close look at the film and you'll realise why he rarely wore clothes.............Overall, i thought it was a great film, and i would give it 9 out of 10.......

I read the Graphic Novel.....Knew the ending.....They changed it in the movie....but in the end felt the same.....The movie was amazing visually (the acting in the beginning felt a bit off but by 20 minutes in, everyone just fell into place). I was honestly shocked to see Doctor Manhattan naked for 90% of the movie. I thought he'd be modest, but take about being faithful to the movie.....It was an awesome experience, definetly this years The Dark Knight in terms of the larger than life characters and spectacular effects.....For those who found it boring or 'didn't get it', do a bit of research or find out about where the movie comes from.

HAD high expectations, THEN read the graphic novel, THEN realized there was no way they could fully translate such brilliance! with that aside, props to the art department for making a visually thrilling experiance and what a great opening title sequence...but although they painstaikingly recreated the world of watchmen, what they forgot is that the most important aspect of adapting an original work to the screen is none of that matters unless the soul and spirit of said work is intact on said screen!! for me, what really lacked was the suspense, the tension and overall feeling of impending doom... they spoke about how they were facing armaggedon but i didnt feel it! what i felt like i was watching was a "here are the best bits" retread mixed with an uninspired soundtrack (sure, the songs hinted at in the book were there- "my thrill" & "along the watchtower") but where are the daring choices? it could sure have used more of philip glass' great compositions (which gave me goosebumps)!!! also, to come from the graphic novel, which had an amazing, trail-blazing stucture, the movie was stacked together like legos with no genuine flow in the narrative- let alone trying to do something differant and creative!!......its pointless to nitpick at what plot points were included in the story and what wasn't (besides, we only have to wait for the director's cut dvd!) and i feel they were right to cut out the squid (liked how the project was titled "squid"). it goes without saying that Jackie Earle Haley's Rorschach was tops and i was surprised at how the actor made such a maniacal character feel humane (his final moments in the story were much improved in the movie- tear!).......although the movie was fine most of the way through, they kinda dropped it towards the end... there was no feeling of excitement, no sense of awe at the slow unfolding of the "master stroke" and in no way did it try and make you think "how'd he pull that off?" or "man, i should've seen the signs". the puppet master's strings were there and were somewhat obvious the entire time....

I haven't read the original comic book - however I intend to now.........I enjoyed the film, I guess that's the most important thing, it was worth the money I paid to see it. However I had a few qualms about it, like... it was pretty slow movie in the first half... very stop, start, stop. Didn't like that too much, the action scenes were few and far between and it was a bit tedious wadding through all the exposition before the second half kicked in.........The CGI was atrocious... really just bad - then again most CGI is, so I'll let that one go.........The camera movements weren't interesting, I mean we live in the post-Russian Ark era, let's see something interesting and fluid........The blue guy didn't look "real" enough.........The acting was very mediocre, the actors seemed to be there just there to tell the story, it sucked major. I mean there were no brilliant performances, it was rather boring - I'm not going to remember any of those characters for their mannerisms.....

I guess i'm alone in saying that the movie was a big waste of time. I sat in the movie theatre for three hours and NOTHING happened. If the movie was only the last hour then it wouldn't of been so bad. If there was a way that I could get my money back that would be great.

Terrible Movie. It was so random and drained my life for 3 hours. I wanted to kill myself by the end of it. The plot wasn't interesting, the characters were sooo annoying, especially the comedian, and there was an unnecessary amount of nudity and sex. It didn't make much sense and it was really TOO LONG. It might have been bearable if it was 2 hours shorter.

Koroko Del Toro
This movie was incredible. I've seen it 3 times now in the cinema and now I'm gonna wait for the directors cut which is going to be 40 minutes longer, which should solve most of the pacing issues I had with the movie. As a 2 hour and 45 minute of Watchmen, this is AS FAITHFUL as a comic-to-movie translation gets, and it was incredible. Jackie Earle Haley was perfect as Rorschach and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian), Billy Crudup (Dr Manhattan), Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl II) and Matthew Goode (Ozymandias) were all fantastic. Malin Akerman was good too. What amazes me is all the people who didn't like it because it didn't have as much action in it as they'd thought. Everything in this movie is meant to be commenting on other superhero movies. Its violent because if people went around beating up criminals, there would be consequences. Dr Manhattan being naked is to sumbolize him slowly slipping away from humanity as he doesn't care for clothes anymore. This movie cannot be taken at face value, you need to think deeper. Amazing movie.

I thought it was great....it wasn't amazing but i definitely liked it a lot....i didn't think the violence was too much and i thought that making it all like stylized worked really well....in my opinion it would have done the novel more justice if it was longer because it kind of felt a rushed ....o and also y did they keep showing johns package??? wtf....Overall i really enjoyed it and im pissed off at all the people i know who haven't liked because it wasn't what they thought it would be, even tho i said it isn't a superhero movie....God....Can't wait till Wolverine

A fantastic movie, I made sure I didn't read the graphic novel first - as I wanted to have a fresh first look and not sit there comparing it. Now I will buy the novel and watch it again...................Yes it had some violence and sex in it, but nothing was there in excess... It all had its place...................Those who say it was terrible didn't understand it etc, well, after all, this is Myspace, and 85% of the people on here are, lets say not rocket scientists... I knew that I was at a Myspace screening of the movie when half of the audience giggled at Dr Manhattans genitalia. Every frikkin time - Need I say more...............As for the commenter in the forum who said "and there was an unnecessary amount of nudity and sex" thats rich coming from someone who has a typical "look at me, I am 19years old with a 3inch long skirt" profile photo don't you think?....... To sum up, if you want a movie that will make you think and entertain at the same time see this....... if you have the attention span of a mouse, the most you have ever read is the first sentence on your coco-pops packet, and think the height of comedy is watching someone get hit in the nuts by a kid on a swing, then stay at home and watch one of those 'funnest home videos' TV shows - this is NOT the movie for you.

The story was complex, and sometimes misguided but otherwise I enjoyed having to work out by myself what was happening. I just don't understand the ending with Mr Manhatten. It really just needed better explaining. The sex scenes werent very necessary but eh, they added emotion. Overall an 7.7/10........Pros....Complex story, good characters, nice camera angles and special effects, good fights....Cons....Ending, a few unnecessary scenes which just didnt mean anything, and no space squid :(
