Kanji Legend TV Productions - Shotokan Karate DVD
The Art of War The Art of War

June 4, 2007 - Monday

This will draw some flame...!

Last July we had a crew at the JSKA World Championships in New York. The event was expected to be a showpeice for world class Shotokan karate. Well, apart from a few good fights, most of the kumite footage was unusable. Why...? Well the WKF 'rules' were in use, and once we logged the eleven hours of footage from the two units we had there, our worst fears were confirmed. Most of what we had was, what can be best desccribed as brawling. Now I can already hear the yells of protest, but I can only tell you that the programme never even made it to the edit.

The organisers were very upset at our decision, but Legend Productions has never produced inferior material, and we were not prepared to put our reputation at risk. In short, we will never undertake to record any future event where WKF rules are being used.

OK.... fire away!

I don't know what WKF rules are, but, If you guys say it's like a brawl, then, that's good enough for me. I think it's great that you respect your own standards enough to tell the organisers of this event that the kumite was not of good enough to publish. Well done.

Yes, you're right. if the karate was poor then why make the video in the first place? I've seen Legend's stuff and it's full of arse kicking power so again, why tarnish a good rep. That WKF stuff is crap - if you're bigger than the other guy, you're half way there, just fall on him, hold him down and you win - what crap.
